How do you delete saves in X Rebirth?

For the Steam and Windows version you will find your Rebirth saves in a Documents folder with a path similar to this:
C:\Users\Your Name\Documents\Egosoft\X Rebirth\Your Steam Number\save\

Be aware that if you have Steam Cloud backup enabled, deleting the saves may see the Cloud replace the old saves. Here is how to avoid this.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured I had to do something additional as before I posted this I had already tried deleting the save files in the Egosoft folder where the Steam ID number folder resides.
I've never come across this method of deleting saves in a game before. I guess you learn something new everyday.
