NEWS: 100,000 registered community members and a new look

Post by BurnIt! »

We've broken through the magical barrier!
Today, 08/12/2004 at 19:48:37 "Veteran C64 Elite" joined and became member number 100,000!
That is something to celebrate!

[ external image ]

What would a celebration be without presents? So, we're giving you (and ourselves ;-)) a new outfit...

We have finally been able to replace the now rather dusty-looking layout of the Egosoft Website and give ourselves a completely new look. The primary aim is to remove the old style completely and to create a new site which provides simple navigation and a modern layout. While we were at it, we thought of ourselves a little and made the administration and maintenance of our new internet presence a little more comfortable - so now we can bring you more frequent news, which benefits everyone.

On the technical side, we didn't just want to achieve the highest possible level of browser compatibility, but also to meet the high standards of the W3C Consortium. At the last test, all web pages were validated and if I can believe the evidence of our many testers and helpers, none of the major browsers have difficulty in rendering our new site.

If you have a forum account, you can click directly on a link in the news and share your thoughts with the other community members.

If you are looking for help then you should be able to find it much more quickly.

The download pages are better structured, the design is clearer and small symbols help you select the right files - as before, this depends on your game being registered; how this works is here in our new FAQ Database.

And with that we come to our next innovation - this powerful database already has over 300 answers to frequently asked questions about this website, the forums and of course the X games. More are being added daily and the translators are working hard to make the entries available in other languages. Special thanks for this go to the Argonopedia Database team who made the basic structure of this FAQ available to us (and saved me a whole load of work :-)).

We are still working on it and are not 100% finished, so there will be lots of smoothing of rough edges and even though they are working hard, our translators are only human - so please be patient, if something isn't perfect yet - they are working on it!

Enough words, have a look around and have fun at http://www.egosoft.com

Well done :)

Anyway, I am a bit surprised the recorded videos aren't exportable. :gruebel: Some of the stuff AlexKitch are doing is amazing. An example is this thread:

Bash me if you think it is in bad taste, not him - he's an artist.

They've been on ages. one thing i might suggest is to move the forum into a frame or table on the frontpage, to tie it all together, unless that is you're revamping these too...

Actually, I hate to say it, but whilst the site does look fairly natty, I do prefer the old look, its more cosy, like an old comfortable jacket you refuse to through away even though its worn down to the ground... Ahh well, I'm sure I'll learn to live with it... At least the old manic lol men are back to whacking each other...

Excellent new look.

Well, The Return is right around the corner. So the new website facelift comes at the right time. Agree that the old one was "dusty," but it worked like an old jacket. I'll miss that comfy part. This new look is slickly futuristic and lends itself to the X-Universe vogue. I'm looking soooo forward to Egosoft in 2005. Well done!

Just a note. . . I think clicking the forum link shouldn't open a new window.

Good work Burnit, Jon and Brianetta.

Argonpedia is a great source of info and well designed. The new FAQ is the best yet simply because it uses the same system. Im sure the fans will appricate the effort.
