A while back we had a little poll asking you what you liked best about the X2 plot - however that doesn't tell us how many of you actually played the plot - so here's a new poll asking that. :)

The longer the plot the better, one doesn´t feel quite so alone in outer space when one can keep going back to the plot.
It makes it more personal and reduces the suicide rate :-D

Interaction with the X-universe, and characters therein, makes the game far more immersive. We need plot lines and plot sidelines too.

I've been playing for a while, but only just completed the plot.
I liked being able to leave the plot at just about any point, go and do my own thing, then come back to it later.

Now that I've finished the plot, I already have an empire to manage and expand. That's what keeps me playing. (Until The Return at least)

I did the plot once, before I had a decent gfx card to actually see much of what was going on :D .
Later on I restarted just to see what I was missing, which was a lot!.
I'm very much looking forward to the new plot and I plan to start from the beginning when TR comes out.
X2-The threat, $20
A new gfx card to play X2- the Threat, $100
Having a wife so addicted to GTA/SA she doesn't care how much time I play X2-The threat, Priceless!

Nope, I got so far then was so wound up in trying to keep my empire going I never got the time to finish the plot. Every three seconds getting "Attention : One of your ships is under attack" kind of stops you being able to finish anything ;)

I have been playing since the game was released and have restarted 3 times. Haven't finished the plot yet.

This is a long weekend for us over here and I am going to finish the last mission. I have enjoyed being able to walk away from the plot and come back to it as I pleased.

Will probably do X2-TR the same way.

Plot sidelines this is what´s missing ! After the storyline ends the player could feel somewhat alone.
Perhaps the build-up to missions from stations could be a little more personalised.
Maybe this will be better in X2 TR,as I read that there will be a "player base" not bad if this is true, because at the moment I have no real home out there.

Played through 4 times - last game got so far and stopped.
Overall I enjoyed the plot, however to me it was fairly minor compared to doing what I wanted to do and so was glad that completing the plot was more of an option then a requirement.

I think I can safely say that for real X fans the "Plot" is only secondary.

Personaly I play X2 exactly for the "freedom of play" and I believe it is this freedom that will prevent the plot from becoming bigger than the rest.
The plot itself is important but as mentioned above is an option and not a requirement,as in many other games.
That makes X2 unique.

Plot

Post by davidan »

Yep, played only once. Kind of rushed through before expanding and was left wanting more. Kind of "so thats it then uh?" but once my fledgling empire started to grow, WOW! Yes more plot and plot sidelines would be good. Do hope that some of the great scripts that have been written find a place in X2TR.

I was more keen to do the plot than hard work building an empire really. and I did it before long. then I started to build an empire, forgot about it, and stopped for no apparent reason

I played through the plot and just finished it recently. Tho i did like a mission every few months lol as i was trying to prolong the story as long as i could.

I do hope for the 6 times bigger story and hopefully hundreads of side quests that i think was mentioned in a recent interview, that was similar to gta missions style, which im really hoping they can pull off and that i am looking forward to ALOT! As it needs more than a main story and hundreads of little missions inbetween the story missions would prolong this for ages which will keep it interesting and also be cool as there not the same as bb missions, hopefully. I dont replay story missions in any games as there is nothing new, the hundreads of side quests in games like gta is what makes me keep going with the games as there really fun and interesting.

I hope i dont have to restart as well in the expansion as i dont like the idea of doing all of what i have built up again. If i do i might have to force myself to do that but i will curse egosoft for it, let hope its totally compatible with saves and that my current fleet and stations arnt affected much and dont interfere too much with the story and side missions. I hope that egosoft are taking older players into consideration when making the story and missions so that they know we have a fleet and stations allready and stuff.

I finished the plot once for every ending, but took a lot of breaks between the missions. I hope that will be possible in the expansion too.

3 restarts and still haven't finished the plot.

I agree. I don't think a linear plot suits this type of game. Lots of side plots and missions that have little effect on the universe but tell a story when they're all put together would be better suited.

I'd also like to see more important events played out without the player if he wishes to ignore them.
