4.0 (private) Beta 1
Just noticed a "4.0 Beta 1" going online for private beta today:

It is an early testing version (incomplete and with no forward compatibility guarantee) that Private beta testers are currently looking at to check out some changes in-game. There is no DLC-related element to it.
There really is no point in dwelling on it here as it is both incomplete and any changes from the current release version are potentially still subject to radical change or deletion.

Knowing that they are working on new game..... I don't think 4.0/DLC is going to be anything major. It will probably be simular to OT with one or two new stations (and i hope player can build them this time ).
It's not world hunger because we can't feed poor,it's because there will never be enough to feed the rich .....

Even though things are subject to change, as a fan of the series it would still be cool to know the general areas/things they are working on.

Acording to devs I think they will try to add new comands for our ships. What they are i have no idea.... I hope it is something like guard object/area (gate,jump beacon or highway). Also i hope they add working escort script...

I suppose there are two ways to pitch the update and DLC do they
1. aim for the current player base
2. or do they go for the disenfranchised player looking for a gap to be filled/fixed from their PoV and a return to playing (not just owning)
I don't have any expectations myself but my prediction is the group 1 is for the DLC and group 2 has to wait for the next "more X4-like product" with whatever has come before recycled into the new game where it makes sense.

I think for some of the disenfranchised player base, it will literally take new game actually called X4. Many are not willing to give Rebirth a chance (for good and not so good reasons). You see it in the comments in many of the forums—not engaging with the learning curve (which is far easier than earlier games) and just uninstalling the game again in frustration, not so much because they have encountered a broken feature, but because they are unwilling to put in anytime to learn.BigBANGtheory wrote:I suppose there are two ways to pitch the update and DLC do they

I think you overthink it. The pre-2.0 XR was a buggy mess withouth lots of patch-introduced fetures (no remote station and shipyard contact, old GUI, missing ship commands, skunk-squad traders, awful default cokpit, 2D map and propably many other that I do not remember).
Not to mention lots of CTD and performance issues.
I rage-quit after a few hours of game, but when I got back at 2.5 or 2.6 (the one that introduced new cokpits) and gave it a chance. post 3.0 I really enjoy the game and looking forward to 4.0, DLC and XR2 - the game start to unleash the hidden potential.
With better ship command GUI and multiple flyable ships XR2 or whatever they gona call it (X-Redemption would be fitting name, don't you think
) it will be epic again.
If I need to buy the DLC to make it happen then I'm all for it. It's not like we gonna have Star Citizen anytime soon, Elite Dangerous was nowhere near the X-games and No Man's Land will probably be Spore x Space Sim (aka much hype for nothing).

Your almost-empty cockpits (the HAWK combat configuration for example) don't even feel like cockpits but like first-person shooters. No chance. I'll pick the immersive, big and obstructive cockpit at any time a day without thinking.

I like that we can choose the cockpit we want, though as well.
They should do the same for the next game with multiple flyable ships, giving some modular cockpits to choose from for different ship types.
I wished for an X2 capship bridge in XR.
Great to hear 4.0 is getting within reach and not just an announcement anymore.

Let's see what eyecandy the new DLC is going to give us, too.
Btw. my heart stood still when I read "4.0 Beta 1" multiple times, now.
Could you change it to "private beta" or sometzhing like that?

Updated 10 hours ago, so it's increasing, the round numbers 2.0, 3.0, etc. tend to be the big ones so this is probably going to add the polish? Or maybe more?

Most of the real player base stopped playing X-rebirth along time ago, Whats mostly left is a group of self denying rping masochists who aren't going to get their way with the next game. Children pilot, adults command and then also choose to pilot any of those ships they are commanding at any given point while also increasing time dilation.
