NEWS: X Rebirth 2.0 - Secret Service Missions released

Egosoft is extremely pleased to finally announce the release of X Rebirth 2.0 - Secret Service Missions. After considerable effort and with an eye to all the great feedback we've received, X Rebirth 2.0 represents a major update for a wide variety of gameplay mechanics.

Together with the new plot chain, which offers all players membership in the Argon Federation secret service, X Rebirth 2.0 brings a host of new features and improvements including:
  • New playership modifications allowing for different cockpit configurations for special purposes
  • Two new configurable radar modes for the event monitor
  • An autopilot for your playership
  • Several new commands for ships in your squad, permitting much finer control over their actions.
  • A massive overhaul of the game's balancing, as well as the introduction of three difficulty levels, and achievements for the new difficulty level "hard"
  • Multiple new gamestarts in different areas of the universe specially tailored for traders, builders or fighters
  • A set of beautiful new capital ships which are especially useful for trading in Omicron Lyrae
  • An overhauled visual look and feel resulting from improved shaders and soft shadows
  • Lots of UI and menu improvements
  • Ability to deal remotely with lots of NPCs without the need to land on stations
  • Redesigned highway gameplay
  • Better support for joysticks

Even tho I was playing the beta the final version is looking great :)

I especially love using the autopilot to find the parts of stations that I had not previously been able to find. - I know it a small thing, but it is great having whole stations mapped out.

Great work, and I will be signing up once you start the new beta as well :)

Great news regarding the updates!

Now, reduce the price from $49.99 to something much more reasonable given the game's initial reviews and complaints, and time post release, and I might just buy it.

Nice Patch, formal 'X Rebirth 2.0' on forum home page now.

only other thoughts I have for now is;

So the autopilot works, except when piloting drones? (Ship still stops and is dead in space while on manual drone control mode) Is that correct?

Now that some new cockpit layouts are available, is there any hope next patch will let Yisha buy a new co-pilot wardrobe? (NO BOOB WINDOWS!).

And please get the cockpit free point of view (and external cam view) happening asap, then I might start playing this again.

So, I have fired the game up for the first time in 3 months again after finding there's a new (non-beta) patch with some new content and ... I find myself pleasantly surprised. The capship commands are a nice start to actually controlling your assets. The cockpits add additional immersion - personally I decided to go with the combat cockpit in my plot game - but underline the lack of free head movement even stronger than in the previous versions of the game; the added visibility is very nice already, however.

The other thing I am pleasantly surprised by is the radar - from the looks of it, it is an evolution of the gravidar from previous games, with much better depth perception: I can actually tell where in relation to my ship another object is by looking at the radar (instead of just getting an approximate heading). It is, in my opinion, extremely well done (... this really, really, should have been in the original release, but oh well :P)

The redesigned highways actually feel good, instead of a chore (as they previously were) - nice bit of "street racing" if you will, in a busy system ;p (Also, they now make a lot more sense, greatly helping immersion).

I also got the impression that NPC character models looked better, this is probably an effect of the enhanced graphics - nevertheless, they're no longer placeholder-"ugly", hurrah :D


This patch restores some (more) hope that the devs can/will get the game to a pleasantly playable/enjoyable state - I'm hoping that the fleet management system is going to get expanded on a bit, but more importantly, that the different factions present in the game gain actual meaning beyond "generic corp #27" - that working with one faction will affect your reputation with the others, that the factions gain dynamic, working, relationships with each other (HoA vs PMC comes to mind, but I'm sure there's more). And, of course, an expansion upon the station building and managing aspect (mostly the managing, more direct control over a station's actions would be great to have, stuff like "stockpile output", "halt production" etc).


Edit: I forgot to add "excellent pdf to document new features" and "great work on the UI fluidity, it actually is no longer annoying to use it" in the spur of the moment.

This is exactly what I hope as well; both fleet management (add cap ship bridges to that) and give factions more meaning, life and dynamics. It sure is time for Berndt to update the road map and it better have any or all of this in it!

Edit. Forgot to add a "Very well done, Egosoft!". I really like what 2.0 has added to XR.

Actually, since we cannot see Ren, adding some customisation for Yisha would be interesting. Like new clothes and haircuts.
But then again, there are many more important things, so dont bother Egosoft :)

When is a normal classical control of the ship? Left mouse button shoots right management! Autopilot full of shit, do each time two clicks .. How can turn my head when reading the information about where galograficheskoe menu before you? Antediluvian game menu, the cursor mouse sucks .. :evil: :evil: :evil: translated in the game as I wrote in translate.google :lol:

I think this was wrote in gibberish not Google translate .....is there anyone from Gibberland who could translate for us please ......

^^^ This the last updates on progress etc was in mid feb.

Well, there is still a planned UI rework for this summer if i remember well.
