How to give your ships an order/command?

Post by DocMcJansen »

Hi there..

How do I give my freighter an order? I mean like "Fly to Sector X-Y"? When I go to the comm menu and I chose "Give new Orders" to the captain of the ship and "Take me to..." it plots a course for my skunk and the freighter isn't moving at all.

Didn't the devs (Bernd) state in a video "Okay you can only fly one ship, but you can just give commands to your captain and control the ship this way". Ummm no...well..at least I don't see it. Do you need a special software? Am I missing something?

Please enlighten me.

Btw. Tutorial is bad...really bad...don't you think?

It boggles me too. Devs mentioned they making the controls and UI simpler and noob friendly while maintaining the amount of command and control you have.

Unfortunately, it seems that we have way way way lesser C&C in X Rebirth. I dunno if its in the game now but maybe locked or something, but it ridiculous how you can't even tell your capital ship to park at this coordinates or dock at this station or attack here. Im probably blind and hoping i am. Its like the only C&C we have is telling the capital to buy this and sell that. thats all?

I'm also hoping there is just something we're missing here. For something meant to be "easier" for players the massive numbers of people who can't even get a freighter to dock and sell 100 engergy cells is staggering. Surely there is a way to cancel a ship's current commands AND a way to tell it to remotely fly to a location and trade. If you really have to manually fly everywhere to issue trade commands that was a massive, massive mistake. For now I'm going to slog through and enjoy the parts of the game that seem to work, but I'll admit I'm starting to really worry that they completely hosed the fleet management aspects of this game.

Hello,
I agree with this topics. Where is commanding options about what Bernd Lehahn talking in videos?
Maybe they will unlock later in the campaign? Maybe some mission will unlock them?
Or this is simply a bug?
Or DEVs did not develop that functionality till release?
Or we are using wrong menu?

Even with a spare pilot in the other ship, there are no commands save for the rather useless, "Take me to..." order.

I have no idea what they were thinking.

That's how the command interface looks like in the alpha version of an indie title (Starsector).

And they didn't even spend 7 years to do it either...

My dog responds to more commands......and my dog only knows 2 commands, sit and lay down.

Take me to.........even of you had to put one command into a game........that's horrible!

The thing people aren't grasping here is that there is no commands. Everything has been dumbed down to the point there is no sector trading.

Freighters are nothing more than glorified backpacks.

You fly to the destination and click on the factory and sell your item. Your freighter then automatically just does the rest for you.

But the point is.. it is you in your ship that does all the trading manually. Your ships are just objects for shifting all your wares around the galaxy and delivering them for you.

I guess this could change in the future with trading scripts and/or mods?

I went back and checked again. I'll be damned, there are really no commands to control your other ships! WHAT THE HELL?! The "Take me to..." command only plots a course for the Skank, my trader refuses to move an inch. Aaaand there is no other command whatsoever.

Question: how do I suppose to repair them or upgrade them when I can't send them dock? How do I suppose to make them escape enemy fire? How do I suppose to send them to meet another ship or exchange freight? How do I make it do ANYTHING ELSE THAN FLOAT IN SPACE?!

This game a f#&đing disgrace not only to the X series, but all space sims.

I just had to fly 300+ km with damaged engines and no autopilot to go pick up my first trade ship as part of the plot, it took me ages to get there, then I end up having to fight 2 drones which completely kicked my ass but I survived to destroy them and be told "thank you for defending our station, heres some credits" (I dont actually know how many credits I was given). Then I turned and saw I now own a new hauler, "ok now where getting somewh.. wtf" I looked at it, pressed the context button A and nothing came up, I pressed A again and still nothing, I had to go searching for it in the sector map, so I pressed Y to open com and nothing, no com. ... no way to give it orders? The mission said "go to ..." so I moved slowly towards a nearby highway (I had damaged engines) and as I approached it the game crashed.

I dont want to have to do that again.

I certainly hope that isn't the case. The idea of flying everywhere to do my own trading? I don't mind that once in a while but, I was looking for a space sim with trading. I didn't want to be a long haul trucker in space.

Can we have something like this please? I would prefer something more like Homeworld 2 type of control (3D), but I'll take this 2D any day over what we have now!

What were they thinking... I just gave it another try, it is simply impossible to assign the most basic commands to my ships (i.e. protect, fly to, dock at, etc). It's not even a part of the game.

How are we supposed to manage fleets, let alone a trading empire?!

There must be remote trading.
I can only imagine it gets unlocked later in the walkthrough stage.

If not, then I can only imagine Ego decided to make a game that has nothing to do with what we're used to, Which is allowed, but very depressing for us X gamers

The take me to COMMAND DOES WORK, you are doing it wrong. I explained this in another thread and if you really wanted help you would have asked in the "get help" thread I put up. You are doing it wrong, that is why it doesn't work, which is understandable though because it is easy to do it wrong.

Sorry to tell you, OP...

But there are no commands. Just one 'go-to' command that makes your ships fly to a general area. Your ships will not help you in combat other than float around.

This is good news then.
how do I find the commands to tell my freighter to go to a system and buy some wares? (or sell some)
I can't seem to find it atm. Is it something I unlock later?
