Steam is downloading something for AP... 6 gb?!

Any secret mega patch? Or a bug/fail?
Steam just starts downloading AP, 6 gb.

It often says that (the whole gamefiles) when it only updates a few files in the MB range. Give it a go and see is the best bet (unless you pay per MB or are download-capped). There were recent bugfixes for X3AP issues, but just a few files.

From your picture, something else is going on. Have you recently moved your files or done any system changes or game mods? Have you recently gone to Steam on-line from Steam Off-line mode as there was a complete Steam gamefiles format change a while back?

Full 6.2 Gb download here. Letting it do it since i don't pay any extra. Although it's still about an hour download.

I just verified my vanilla X3AP as up to date and OK and the last X3AP update for me was 2.5.3 on 25 Jan 2013 of about 25 MB.

I have no idea what you are seeing unless your gamefiles appeared to be corrupted or missing to Steam. (6.2 GB is about the whole of X3TC without the X3AP addon folder by the way.)

Nothing was modified. I was playing AP and I loggned off from steam and went for a dinner. Returned after half hour and loggned back and steam was downloading an update. When it finished, AP started downloading. Vanilla game.

Sorry, a mystery. There have been previous similar reports a while back (also 6.2 GB) but that was the X3TC gamefiles format change - maybe yours was a long time in coming through?

Could be, but that would have to be asked of Steam and their Tech Sp record on knowing and responding to such questions seems rather variable (reportedly).

The (sort of) good news is that if it is that gamefile format change that has only just arrived with you, you do need to get the full download to get further X3TC updates and you should only need to do it once.
