I am very attached to the ship computer voice in X3 and TC. It's part of what makes the game... what it is. It's part of the personality.
If they change the voice I would actually consider not buying Rebirth.
Thankfully, they seem to have the same voice actress (actually the wife of one of the devs I think?) because she is in the official trailer at the end.
Vechs: if you don't like me, your loss - not mine, but let me clarify
to be clear: I like Bettys voice. But over time her original voice has lost the smooth and professional sound engineering treatment giving to it during X2 The Threat. This is because of later additions giving it a patched-together feel.
In X2 the ship voice was consistent in volume, sound quality, tone, and inflexions and, this included a slight 'layering', or 'doubling', or 'thickening' effect dialled into it with effects at the recording studio wherever it was. I know a bit about these things, and can spot it a mile away.
My point is: since that time, the voice has been added to, with new sector names, ship names, stations, etc. Each time an new line had to be added, the sound quality of the voice is totally mismatched to the original tone, ie: fly to to montellar and select the east gate and the ship voice goes "Gate (normall tone), **
avarice**(Zerg Hive Queen tone)". At other times the voice sounds slow and lethargic ie when it is giving a long winded description of new ship info. other times it has too heavy thickening effects dialled in. This inconsistency annoys me. This is sound engineering that needs attention here, not Bettys voice.
I am hoping that the treatment of bettys voice in XR will be better.
