Hi, i was hoping to buy the X3: Terran War Pack when its released on the 24th of February but iv just noticed that it requires Steam.
Are there plans do a non steam version in the future ?
As i understand it terran conflict doesn't need steam or the cd inserted to play, was it always this way or did updates do this. If it was updates then il just wait as i hate Steam.
Thanks

As per our new Steam FAQ we plan to release a "NoSteam" executable for X3AP 2.0 to help those who have particular technical issues with running Steam permanently, but you will need to use Steam during the installation and activation process. There are no plans to release a disk-based version of X3AP that does not use Steam at all.

Thanks for the quick reply.
That's very disappointing. If i understand correctly i have to install steam and keep it installed but not running and then use the nosteam exe to launch the game. I cant uninstall steam and updates are not guaranteed for my games running that way.
If that's correct then il give it a miss. I hope that's not correct.

If you're using the NoSteam exe then you don't have to keep Steam installed after you've installed the game and activated it, but if you're not running the Steam client anyway there is no advantage to uninstalling it other than to free up a small amount of disk space. However you are correct in saying that you won't get updates if you use the NoSteam exe, as that is one of the facilties provided by Steam.

Acceptable solution, Thx Egosoft! (Share OP's non-love for Steam!)
OT:
Just wish a Game Dev would go back 'old school' and offer Download of *their* game from *their* web site after payment to *them*. No Steam. No Physical copy. Updates from one place. I'm good with that. Heck, I'd even pay a few $$ more for true non-steam version if given a choice!
I hate having 'something' (i.e. Steam) between me and my game. I hate being tracked. Darn good thing I like X more than I hate Steam...

MMMM il have to think about this one. I'm not happy about steam being anywhere near my pc but i suppose i could live with uninstalling it and then cleaning the pc of any steam files (its just an annoyance having to do that)
The lack of updates is quite major though. Pay for a game and receive no updates. Definitely need to think about this.
You can close this topic now and thanks again for the quick replies and i hope in the future you release a non-steam version.
