Just started X3TC and in the flight school

The flight school is asking me to shoot some debris he has ejected from his ship but I have no weapons on my Mercury! How can I shoot the debris if I have no weapons!? I selected a humble merchant start.
Another Q - I am not new to the X games but I seem to have to hold down the left mouse button to fly with the mouse - how do you fly without holding down any mouse buttons?

Use Space for mouse follow, or Shift N for the classic mode. As for the flight school, you don't need to complete it, and if you're not new to the games it won't teach you much.

Thanks for the quick response - just thought it a bit daft that you can't complete the tutorial if you use humble merchant start!!! Thought I might need to practice to get back into the X games!

Do some trading to increase your bank, then once you find some IREs you can put them on your Disco or Merc and finish up flight school if you want.
