I'm guessing they're doing this to tie in with the Steam for Mac launch i.e. to get more mac users on the service.

It's buggy, because its was written as part of a course in game design, but it gives some insight into some of the things to be found in Portal, and it *is* a cracking good game.

Plus you can have a go at a crate run (google for that). I managed it, 'tis fun.

Same here ,but now its free and that means its alot better than our payed version.

This makes me wonder what if someday steam will have all games free for a weekend,imagine the horror when people won't know what to download first

If you know someone else who has it, get them to do a steam backup of the game. Then all you have to do is start the portal download to get the ball rolling, stop it and install using the backup.
