Where did you put your PHQ and why?

Post by imperium3 »

Well I just finished the PHQ plot (TC) and I've built it in Aldrin 2. Why you ask? Well that sector looks very nice, plus it's between the massive resource fields of Aldrin and TUS1. My Hub's currently parked between Aldrin 2 and TUS1, and once the second gate is open I'll connect it up to my complexes in the Commonwealth. 240,000 crystals to go...

Aldrin 2's nice and safe too, though I've heard dark rumours about legions of Xenon in TUS3.

So out of curiosity, where did other people put their PHQ? Not to mention why?

I've not done the TC plot, but in Reuinion I put it in Cloudbase South West so the ships I built didn't have far to go to grab a jumpdrive.

First off, congrats. :) Heck of a trip, eh? And yes, TUS3 is pretty much overriden, at least in my game, but I don't spend much time out there, and TUS1 is as well anyway.

Like the 99.9% of other Reunion-babies, I plopped mine in Avarice and hooked that gate up to Argon Prime/Home of Light and Queen's Harbor/Queen's Retribution. Anything I need EQ-wise is within 2ish gates, and so far I've had zero Xenon problems and only the occasional rogue pirate passing through.

I originally put it there because it's a very nice-looking, roomy sector, and off the main Xenon highways, and connected my gates up so as to keep it that way. Sadly, I'm spending much less time there than I had thought I would, and probably could have dropped it more or less anywhere, seeing as I mostly end up managing it OOS anyway.

Well i did not finished the plot yet. (i'm still near the end of the Hub) But i was planning to put the PHQ directly in the Hub. Because in fact i will get like this a mobile PHQ and like this all my unique stations are in one sector so thats easyer to defend in case of an attack. I like the music of the Hub as well.

I put my PHQ in the unknown sector between Montalaar and New Income, my reason for that is.. its a nice and big sector which i have the hub connected to so if i wish to expand in that sector i can with ease :)

What a slog though wasn't it!

I put mine in Midnight Star- It's a large bright sector and the PHQ looks great with the planet in the background. Midnight Star has a large capacity ore asteroid in it but I'm keeping that complex small so the system runs quick and smooth.

The my hub currently connects it to Aldrin 1 and Legends home. Legends home for jumpdrive access, Aldrin 1 because of my Complexes there feeding my Terran M1 and M2 fleet building project.

I'm getting blueprints of rare ships too - building a wing of Vidars before choosing a race to be unpleasant to.

I put mine in Queens Retribution and set one of the gates to between there
and Queens Harbour, giving me access to Shipyard, Equipment Dock
and a reasonable route to jumpdrive.

I reasoned that the first thing a newly created ship needs is not the
jumpdrive, but the engine tunings. Also the shipyard provides a
source of scrap metal for the fleet

There are also some rocks in nearby sectors

It seemed a safe place reasonably free from pirates etc. Also with
3 gates working at that point, the exact placing probably doesn't matter
that much.

I put mine in the second unknown sector west of Unholy Descent, as it is a very easy sector to defend - there's only one entrance to both sectors. And because I like quiet sectors with no NPC traffic, since it's a dead end sector, no NPC ever travels through it.

how about Getsun Fune, at the north east part of the universa?
it contains almost all race equipment stations, of course except Terran

It would leave very little manoeuvring room in the hub.

It would be a good way to both block the hub and waste a PHQ though :)

There's plenty of room in the Hub for the PHQ - it's tiny in comparison in size to the Hub (Hub has an internal diameter of about 40km measured between the gates).

I always put my PHQ in the Hub, usually on the opposite side to the Hub docking facility & about 15km below the ecliptic plane (also inverted to allow easy access to the freighter/M6 docking clamps if I'm in-sector while something's docking).

Plenty of room for ships to manoeuvre - never had a single problem in that regard, even when in a previous game I lined the walls of the Hub with 24 equipment docks to provide additional capital ship docking.

Hub is a big place, it just looks a lot smaller than it is because it's enclosed.

Putting it in the Hub would be the most functional choice but aesthetically? Red is not my favorite. I put mine in Terran unknown sector 2. Mostly because I have my major complexes in TUS 1 and have one of the Hub pointed between TUS 1 and 2. It's relatively quiet, away from Xenons and pirates, large, has some descent asteroids if I need to build some complex, and I like TUS 1 for my complex with its 300% sun and terran shipyard right in it which offers lowest price for standard factories.

Yeah - definitely a functional choice, if aesthetics are an important consideration a sector with a pretty planet in the background would certainly be a better option. Putting it in the Hub also causes a bit of a problem if you like repainting ships - always have to jump somewhere else to see what the new colour scheme actually looks like, then jump back to the Hub (or reload) if you don't like it. Otherwise (inside the Hub) it's just the choice between various shades of red.

I wouldn't even consider the Hub as a functional choice: on my machine it's quite laggy even with nothing in it. Bit of a shame really.

Location: Unknown Sector west of Mists of Elysium
Reason: Dead-end sector (only one gate to guard), Empty (good for frame rate when I want to visit), minimal traffic (the odd recon ship), and pretty safe.

I like it also to seek out the beautiful.

I have mine in the HUB inverted at about -15K also. But I don't usually travel there much myself because I hate the fog and it's dark red is unappealing.

If I had to do it again, I'd put it in Duke Vision. That has to be one of the most beautiful planets in the game. Clear sector, fairly large, huge planet with green cast. Not too much excessive traffic. No bad guy traffic (provided you don't anger the Paranid).

To tell the truth, the PHQ is really just a ship manufacturing plant. I don't use it for much of anything else. So it can be out of sight and out of mind. I make use of Equipment docks and Aran ships for most of my day to day business nowadays. A single Aran ship is immensely more useful to organize ships and wares. It even gets better when you own and use several. The internal docking keeps the frame rates high and you can move them to new locations if you want to. We only now need better shipping softwares for our regular ships to make better use of the large cargo space the Aran offers.

Elsewhere you will find I have put mine in Elysium of Light ,in X3R.so that my support complexes can trade with the Goner.Rep goes up steady over time.

In TC,I was tempted to invert it in the Hub,but settled for "Averice" because it's central, not far from Jump Drive supplies and as an added bonus in my game,it has a pirate station which quite happily consumes as much weed and spacefuel as I can give it.

As for Getsu Fune...I have a Hub gate connected there.

I kept mine in Shareholder's fortune. I considered the choice of putting the PHQ inside the hub.. but I just felt claustrophobic at the thought. Wanted it to be in a nice open sector.

My reasons:-
- I have a PHQ resupply complex that produces everything the PHQ needs for repair and building ships in Asteroid belt. This complex also produces shields of all kinds.
- I have a giant weapons and missile complex in Mines of Fortune.
- I have a secondary massive weapons complex in Ore belt.

I wanted easy automated (which means freighters getting there without jumps) access to all these complexes. To allow this I connected my 3 hub gate pairs as follows :

Home of light <--> Ore Belt (Home of light for sourcing jump drives)
Asteroid belt <--> Heretics end (Heretics end has some of my EQ docks for cap ship parking)
Mines of Fortune <--> Shareholders fortune

Shareholder's fortune didn't have anything in it... so PHQ went there :D

PHQ for me. Functionality won out. No lag for me either, unlike other sectors . . . until of course the game starts eating up RAM
