Need help Completing ship, please someone, help
Hi there I have the Xsp for the Angelwing from Nexus, I can get it in the Game ok with the Turrets working ok, I'm trying to make some alterations to it for my own use but have absolutely very little knowledge of the program.
I Have got as far as getting the angelwing.bod into 3DS and loaded the dds into it (which looks nothing like it should) I have skimmed the Tutorials available on this forum but there is nothing for the none graphically skills, granted I am a quick study but I need someone to explain it to me.
what I would like to do to the ship is:
add docking with custom docking graphics (to match Nexus)
move some of the turrets about/add some turret models to the ship
add manouvering thruster graphics
add main thruster effects (at the moment theres just basic trails)
also I would like to alter the DDS files so there is a glowing aspect to them, the ship has absolutely no lights on it so you can only see the textures in game if there is an external light source shinning on the ship.
I've been dreaming of having this ship in game since X3R cam out, this xsp was created by jimhsu77479 on this thread http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... sc&start=0 which was later taken over by Vash_the_Stampede as far as i remember but there has been no activity on that thread for quite a while now and all the download links are dead, I was fortunate to get a copy of the xsp as soon as it was released.
I have not modified the DDS files so far but I am having a problem, when i first ported the xsp the textures where ok, but for some reason they are now showing ingame as black and white, does anybody have a clue of what I've actually done, so i can correct this?

then the easiest way i have found for me to get those type of files into max is to. create a cat/dat put those files into the proper folder. extract using modmanager. modmanager will convert into a semi proper format. then use bod compiler to convert to a formant max can use. then use dbox.
anyways it sound like the reason those weapons are not firing is because the components file was not updated. but you'll need to be in max to do that.
i am sure there is a quicker way but that is how i do it.

I don't know how i did it or what i did, but I've managed to get the left/right turrets working. yay me lol
right I just need to add docking to her and put glowing part on her textures, how difficult would it be to create a custom docking/launch port to the ship, my aim is basically to get it working the same way it did in nexus, any idea how that would be done, I remember the XTM had customer ports in there mod, i'll give them a bell to get their opinion.
just a random thought is it possible to create a script that changes textures, what I'm thinking is that the angelwing goes about her business gold/blue and then if a battle starts her hull would change to evil angelwing, as below:
[ external image ] which is her normal mode, and then she switches to this for attack mode

I'm just thinking it may be possible because after all you can paint yours ships there must be a script that does that, can anyone confirm if this is do-able?

Lol, I'm back because I seem to have messed up, its to do with the textures, they showing up in game ok but for some reason they are a dull brown colour all over, when i look at the DDS files they are in colour, any clue what I've done? I haven't touched them yet as in I haven't started messing with them yet to put in the glowing parts.

Hi guys could someone lend me a hand, I'm attempting to use 3DS MAX 2010 which is going kind of slow, I can get the bod and the scene loaded although they don't line up with each other properly, also when 3DS loads the DDS files for the ship they don't load correctly and the ship looks like its been decorated by a toddler, I've found an idiots guide for 3DS but its a bit out of date.
If anybody has the heart to help me out could you please PM me, I would love to get this ship finished and in the game.
I have the existing model in game but as i have stated it has not been completed, when i first loaded the ship the textures were fine but for some reason now the are showing up in black and white and i have not edited the dds files, does anyone know what is causing this?
