new X3:TC update on steam today, what was it?

Post by mrbadger »

I just loaded X3:TC, and Steam applied a game update. I've already got 2.0, and when the game loader appeared it still said 2.0.

Does anyone know what it was?

maybe 2.0a, which fixes a few bugs

As far as I know, 2.0a is just a name for the corrected 2.0 DVD patch (for the glow bug) - i.e the one that was already on Steam.

Whatever it was it wasn't too large I think, although the pc was on (not X3:TC, just steam) overnight, so I don't know how large it was when downloaded, and there's no mention of an update. It definatelly applied something though, taking about 20 seconds.

Does steam replace files already downloaded without prompting? I'm wondering if it might have decided some of my X3:TC files needed replacing, if there was no patch. That hasn't happened before though.

It's funny how every game forum I am frequent for steam games has posts just like this one about 3 times a week.

I'm gonna make a guess and say Steam can update your files without updating anything at all.

Perhaps another game?
Perhaps one of the game files didn't match the integrity check?
Who knows.

It happens all the time, but it doesn't mean there is a game update, especially when devlopers haven't announced one! It would also appear on your steam update news. I've never ever seen a steam update that was not accompanied with update news.

I got other updates as well. It was just that X3 sat on an update thing for a while before launching.

It might have been that they changed something which marginally affected X3:TC though. I might have launched X3 at the wrong moment, before some other dependancy was finished being replaced.

Since there was no actual update to X3:TC itself, this seems more likely.

Are you sure it wasn't just the Steam client updating itself? It does that too.

No, it was an update being applied to X3:TC. I had the same dialog as for when 2.0 arrived, and the 'launch game when finished' option.

It was a steam update for the other games, and the client itself. And it always does that regardless of what game is being updated.

Steam does, occasionally, appear to update games for no reason. I have no idea why.

Ah, thats ok then. So long as it doesn't mean my install was broken in some way.
