Alright, let’s do this..

First of all i would like to stress that i am no modder! I’m simply a guy who knows the basics of Doubleshadow’s X3 editor and wants the game to have cockpits.
I would like to leave here my congrats to Arkblade for bringing back cockpits to X3TC, without his mod I would not be able to fiddle with the pits and insert new ones.
The second set of congrats goes to Imp.- for creating some awesome new pits for X3R. I used them then and I sure want to use them now!

Now, I said that I’m no modder. All I’m doing is transferring information from one side to the other, combining Arkblade’s and Imp.-‘s mod to create one that, hopefully, will bring cockpits for every ship in the game, including some “custom” pits that will be available is some unique ships. Remember that this is still a work in progress, and I may not be able to do everything that I wished I could and I ask the modding community to help me if they can in the parts where I’m stuck.

Current standings:
-Inserted Imp.-‘s custom cockpits in Arkblade’s mod, thus replacing the pits in all Argon ships, as you can see in the links below:
M1 - Argon Colossus Pit
M2 - Argon Titan Pit
M3 - Argon Nova Pit
M4 - Argon Buster Pit
M5 - Argon Discoverer Pit
M6 - Argon Heavy Centaur Prototype (it's the same for the standard Centaur..for now)
TS - Argon Mercury Pit
TM - Argon Magnetar Pit (as you can see, the cockpit appears to the left of the ship. If anyone knows how to change this, please tell me :P )
TL - Argon Mammoth Pit and a nice side view to the room

- Made cockpits available for all ATF ships:
M1 - ATF Odin with standard cockpit
M4 - ATF Mjollnir with standard cockpit
More screens to come.


I'm currently applying Imp's cockpits to all ATF and Terran ships and some selected Commonwealth ships (OTAS, Prototypes, etc). My idea is to have the Commonwealth ships with the standard pits and the ATF and Terran ones with Imp's cockpits (the opposite of these screenshots)



I don't know if i can post my altered files for others to use, because all the material belongs to other modders. If anyone knows if i'm not going to violate any modder-rules, please tell me and i will post my mod.

The game has a LOT of ships, so it's going to be a while before i see all of them. If i could upload the file others might use it and when they saw a ship without cockpit they could warn me here, so i can change it. Again, i don't know if i can upload it, so i'm waiting for some "legal advice".



EDIT: After some testing, i learned that there seems to be some incompatibility between the Animations.pck file (present in Imp's mod) and X3TC. This is the file that creates some of the animations for the cockpit. Watch the difference below between a pit with animations, and without them:

Without Animations

The console's buttons, bars and blips dissapear. Now, with animations enabled, everytime i fired a shot from an ATF or Terran ship (only these ones), the game would CTD before the laser beams hit the other ship. Nothing happened if i fired the against no target, only when the beams colided with another ship.
I don't know how to overcome this obstacle. Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks for doing this LiveAus.

This game NEEDS cockpits in my opinion, it just seems too "soulless" without them. :(

Gazz' Turret Fix changes the position of some camera/cockpit scenes. In case of the TM, the Cockpit is next to the ship like in your screenshot. These cockpit position changes are not included in 1.4, but since you didn't install it, there should be no such a problem.

Arkblade will be releasing his new version of the Cockpit Callback mod tonight, which includes Imp's cockpits, so i'm going to kill my mod and use his instead (unless i disagree with the ships he selected to carry Imp's cockpits :wink: ).

errm so are you still making yours? as arkblades is good but it doesnt cover all the ships... some still dont have cockpits (think ATF and OTAS ships)
Would someone kill those dam fighters all ready? Those flack cannons are giving me a headache :s

Yes please if you have an up to date release, as if i understand good the current imp one is out of date, and will not see one complete before several days

All i have is an incomplete mod with the following specs:

-All ships have cockpits (i think :? )
-ATF, Terran and other "selected" ships have Imp's cockpits WITHOUT ANIMATIONS (you'll see some purple areas instead)
-The other Commonwealth ships have standard pits

If you want to give it a try here's the file.
Extract to your Mods folder on the games's folder and when you start the game select it in "Select Mod Package". In game go to the outer camera (F2) and then back in (F1) to enable the pit.

If anything is not how i said it is please tell me, i'd like some 3rd person opinions so i can correct it.

So far it seems good works, i have trieds some ships like the blossom and no problem but if you could have the jauges / animations back :p

also i am not sure about the "missile" data, i see written "missile" middile of cokpit of the springblossom but that is all

I doubt anyone here has played Top Gun 2.7 for X2. Anyway, Harlock actually has crew standing in the cockpit of the ship. You may want to do something like that, I believe it has passed the age where we should just have empty seats in cockpit mods.

Nice pits! I like the idea Lord_dakier came up with. Crew members in the bigger ships would be nice. In the future , maybe, someone can figure out damage effects when taking hull damage (inside and out), casualties of marines or crew.
That might ad that bit of realism we need in this game.

Yes, it had always annoyed me how seats were empty.

EDIT - In fact another thing that annoys me is that all cockpit mods are just like those in X2... guys create something new lol.

Imp, Laux and me creating some new cockpits, our common objectives are to create a new CP for each shipmodel and a new style for every race, we want to use a CP Callbackmod and replace step by step each old CP.
Furthermore we use a new method by using lowpolymodels, but the CPs will have more details and extended lightings.

More Informations and Screens of our work follow soon in the german script and mod forum.

Sounds good, you'll have to create a small topic on here and show some work. It annoyed me though how all cockpits was the same. I mean you would expect a Split cockpit to be quite open and a Paranid one to be really horizontal.

If you want any modeling done gimme a bell, i wont texture them tho but i could do some meshes easily enough.

Btw has anyone yet tried to get the indicators in the cockpit to work yet so we can disable the hud ones, mainly the speed and health ones and rocket amounts?

Also integrated radar would be great.

I don't go back that far in the X games history, so forgive me, but I'm getting all these cockpits mixed up. Who made the cockpits in the first group of screenshots in the OP? What about the bottom two? they look like a completely different (and better) style. And the old X2 cockpits... is that a third group of models floating around?
