Now that's what I call good re-balancing

Post by kurush »

With patch 1.3 installed I decided to continue Split strong arm missions hoping that the "No Name" dude is finally gone. On the next mission I was told that some pirate offended my employer and has to be eliminated. I jump in and I find a pirate on a *Khaak Destroyer*, fortunately blue due to my good relationship with pirates. It is accompanied with a red Shark. I assume this setup came in place of 100+ centaurs and ospreys.

Now I am getting a bit 3.14ssed because from what I read here this ship cannot even be captured and now I find that some pirate managed to find one somewhere.  Before somebody asks, it is vanilla.

As a side note, I discovered that Panther sucks as a Khaak killer due to lack of IBLs on the rear turret.

Don't see why you can't use the PPCs on the FRONT turret to do the job. Get about 7km away from the destroyer, use a couple of fighter drones or something to make it hostile, then go to max reverse speed (10m/s) and let the front turret blast it. When I do that with a full-on M2 (8 forward guns) the destroyer usually blows up before it's even come within Kyon range--might not work that well with a Panther due to the lower number of guns, but it's worth a try!

Possibly a q ship in reverse? A scavenging Teladi found the shell of a wreck and decided to reconstruct it around his Falcon Hauler to try and scare away the opposition sorry but I liked that idea.

A Pirate Khaak almost as odd as the Pirate Bounty Hunters I ran into the other day messing about with an Assassin restart. Pretty neat in a way every rule should have an exception.

I don't really know what you would do with a Km2 now if you could capture one - they just aren't the scary monsters they used to be. When I was doing silly patrol missions they seemed easier to kill with my Titan than Xm2. From my recollection in X2 the bloated spiders (well its what they remind me of) would have gone through an old style Titan with ease that's progress.

That's good for one but not that good for a swarm of those, especially if there are Carriers as well. Also, the Panther cannot mount PPCs anywhere :) Of course, one Destroyer can be handled in a Panther. I am thinking more of a Khaak sector visit. In X3:R it was fun to do it in a Raptor.

It looks like I might need to get myself a destroyer or a carrier other than Tokyo which also has no long-range weapons on back. I wonder where can I capture that fast one from Yaki...

IMO, they are still the same scary monsters. At least it is one of the few ships that is not easy to take out in a Springblossom (another one is the Carrier). True, Xenons got a bit stronger. But it is mostly due to the fact that their fighters got PBEs and how J now spawns those fighters. In a Titan (or any M1/2 for that matter) you can kill pretty much everything and it was true in X3:R as well.
