Using Jumpdrive in Terran Space?
I have explored Saturn enough to have all 4 warp gates on map, N, E, S, W. When I look on right side of sector map where stations, asteroids, ships, etc are listed the warp gates show up. Yet I can't jump there, I need to target a warp gate and the warp gates don't show up when I just the Jump function. I have noticed this with other terran sectors. I have a ship in Saturn in radar range of a warp gate. Warp gates still no showing up as an option when using the Jump Command. Ok, is this a bug. Or you can't jump in terran sectors? If not a bug how do I jump in terran sectors?

Jumping in Terran sectors
I've completed the Terran mission and jogged round most of the Solar System. Now flying the Vidar and doing the fighting missions all over. However, I can only jump to the South gate of the Asteroid Belt, not anywhere else in the Terran Sectors as "only recorded data is shown". I do have ships docked in various Terran stations. and I'm at Warrior of Io/Wholesaler/Master Chief.
My question thus is how do you make sure you CAN jump round the Solar system ?? Thanks fellas,

Re: Jumping in Terran sectors
Short answer is: you can't.chanelit wrote:My question thus is how do you make sure you CAN jump round the Solar system ??
Terran sectors, apart from Asteroid Belt, don't have jump-gates. They use Trans-Orbital Accelerators which are incompatible with a jumpdrive.

I have been told (not from an official ES souce, though) that Orbital Accelegizmos are not supposed to be jumpable.
The Terran Jump script ahh... fixes that. =)

Jumpgates create artificial wormholes. The same principal is used on the Jumpdrive too, with one limitation: The Jumpdrive has to lock on en existing Jumpgate before performing the jump.
About Orbital Accelerators, they do what their name says they do: accelerate stuff. Just that. And since they do NOT open any artificial wormholes, the jumpdrive simply can't lock on them.
Now, why did Egosoft decide to use them?
According to the X-universe's lore, the Terrans built 2 jumpgates. One was destroyed to end the Terraformer War, and the other one (in Brennan's Triumph) was disabled by the Goners (see X2 The Threat Storyline). Not only that, but the Terrans actually banned gate construction, just in case the Terraformers would want to jump in and start a 2nd Terraformer War. They used Orbital Accelerators instead, a risk-free interplanetary solution.
The jumpgate you see in Asteroid Belt, is a recently built one, originally placed on Earth by Kyle Brennan, during the final stage of X3Reunion's stroryline. Ofcourse, the Terran people didn't want to have a new Jumpgate right in front of Earth's doorstep. On the other hand, they didn't really feel like destroying it. So, they decided to move it a bit further (Asteroid Belt).
I don't know however, if the Unfocused Jumpdrive (the reward from the Goner plotline) can jump without needing a Jumpgate to lock on to...

Ahhh, but the Final Fury quest line proves that to be false.

I assumed the same as you right up until I realized why I couldn't find the way to the sector I was supposed to recon.

And for anyone wondering, yes, you must jump in and jump back out again. Well, at least that's the only way I could find to get in and out of that first, and probably second sector.
What game is this, uh, ohhhh, I see, it's that game, the one with the good guy, the bad guy and the good guy wins . . . if you play as the good guy that is.

well the simple fact that you can jump to Jump Beacons in say for example Aldrin should show that you dont need something that creates wormholes like the jumpgates to get a proper exit from your jump point. therefore you have to assume that it has something to do with the gates ability to communicate with each other, via some sort of subspace signals, it may be these signals your locking onto rather than the jumpgates event horizon itself.NewnotesJR wrote:Atkara wrote: Jumpgates create artificial wormholes.
