Disc not recognised - X3 or Tages problem?

Installed X3TC and tried to start but it comes back with an error asking me to put in the X3TC DVD, which or course is already in the drive. Checked the FAQs and Forum, made sure I had no drive letter problems, disabled all my security software, updated TAGES drivers and looked at TAGES website. Still get the problem of not recognising the legitimate disc. Oh and the disc really doesn't need cleaning, it's pristine. Below is my DXDiag, is this an Egosoft problem or a TAGES problem? The game itself doesn't check the disk, so it has to be a TAGES issue. Even if the problem turned out to be some issue with your system, it would still be TAGES who'd be able to help you work out what it was.

This is just a random though but does Tages care if the DVD drive letter is the LAST physical drive letter?

Should be simple to test, just change your DVD drive letter to H:
Or just disconnect the 1TB drive and try without it.

Alternativly try another DVD drive if you got one, your drive maybe able to read the data areas but maybe crapping out when it's trying to authenticate the disc.

I just notice , they both have the same TOSHIBA DVDW/HD TS-L802A ATA dvd reader , sadly I only have 2 of dxdiag to examine , but maybe is a problem due with the toshiba firmware and tages (just a guess)....

Not sure if it will help, but its worth a try.

Check what firmware your drive got.

I suggest to write an email to the tages support as well. It seems to be a drive/tages issue.

i've just tried various different firmware. Even with the latest firmware for this drive, which is from February 2008, I still get the message 'Please insert original disc'

And yes, I have emailed TAGES already but they haven't replied yet, not for over a day. I doubt they'll know what to do since I think its just due to us having a useless DVD player that won't run this game properly no matter what!

If anyone can try running the game on the same PC by using the TS-L802A (or similar drive) and then a different drive, we can eliminate all other possible problems besides this drive.

I replay to consider that there are other people with my problem and that i think they dont test the tages with this kind of dvd drive (toshiba TS-L802A (or similar drive) ),,,,,

next time tages COULD BE write the minimum requirement spec. for THE PROTECTION ON THE BOX

And yeah I also have an Acer 5920G with a toshiba TS-L802A HD-DVD drive. This is certainly what causes this problem. Tbh i think its probably more toshiba's fault for making a crappy drive than it is Tages, unless this problem occurs with many other drive types as well.

For me, it's 100% Tages's fault.
That's their responsability to make transparent protection. The way they did it (using Drive's tricks) was not a good idea, because those tricks does not works on all drives.

The answer 'buy a new dvd drive' is funny at best.
So what, if you do buy a new drive and their next update does not works on it, you should buy another one again?
Or even, you should buy a drive for each and every protection scheme using drive tricks?
And label your drives on the front :
'Drive for Securom'
'Drive for Tages'
'Drive for Starforce'....

Back to the problem.
I get this message sometimes. When it happens, i have to remove the disc and put it in 3 times in a row, then it works again.
My drive is a TSSTCORP SH-S183A

well yeah thats what i mean.. IF this problem only ever occurred on this one drive model then i would say it was the drives fault.. IF it happens on various drive models then its TAGES.

Oh and if you have this drive (you may already know) but you CAN get the game to run if you just keep on running the game exe over and over again until it works... which will take you an average of 5 to 10 minutes. I just do what ever else i would be doing if i wasnt on X3 whilst occasionally clicking the exe

as you can see another user with the same problem and same pc spec. i think that Tages can't answer to us to change it or give us simply workaround .... i Think they have to LISTEN to us and make a FIX !!!

If they doesn't listent to us, they have to listen to YOU AND EGOSOFT VOICE !!!!

I think it is not correct to stick an answer that rebound the protection problems to tages, because when we buy X3TC we buy an Egosoft Product that is UNIQUE AND INSEPARABLE FROM THE PROTECTION SYSTEM (protection that doesn't have or list specific requirements) - as also written by Dricks2222 -

At the end we went to buy the egosoft game, so ego could be involved in this our issue ...

I kindly ask to you if you can report this request officially to tages !!!!
