Severe intermittant stuttering

I get some very bad stuttering and low frame rates, to the point that the GUI flashes off for a frame or two. This tends to happen when in combat in a well-built system, or when in the presence of large space stations. I seriously doubt it's lack of hardware performance...

I can't see any obvious problems with your [url=http://www.egosoft.com/support/faq/faq_answer_en.php?answer=610&version=8][b]DX[/b][b]D[/b]iag[/url] report. I do note that you have 8GB of memory, which implies that you are running Vista 64-bit. If so then could you try disabling your sound hardware? This may sound like a strange request, but there appear to be some issues between Vista 64-bit and SoundMAX. Normally these just result in poor quality sound, but I can't help wondering if they could also cause other problems.

This is basically the same problem as I get, only it affects my game almost instantly. My sound is RealtekHD though.

I wonder if there are issues with Vistax64 where RAM is 4GB or greater as that seems to be the common link between my PC and Salnas' PC.

Just to add to CBJ's comment, this isn't the case; I have 6Gb of RAM on my Vista machine now, and I was playing the game for several hours last night without any appreciable stuttering.

Tried with the sound disabled from the device manager, same problem exists. Either around complex stations or large fights this stutter something ugly, yet the rest of the time it's smooth going. Doesnt seem to be any middle ground.

You can try to :

- set texture settings to medium
- Disable indexing of your harddrive
- Use a readyboost device

The above solved it for me, at least until now.

Textures are at med, shaders low.

Indexing is one of the first things I disable in de-bloating vista.

I have no 'readyboost' servicable devices, not that it would matter much. With the ammount of memory I have, I could run with no swap file at all, let alone needing a flash device as a dedicated swap device.

On a lark I tried running with no swap file, seeing as I have the memory for it. And it certainly does help, reducing the instances of stuttering. Still can't fight in a sector that hosts a complex station (IE: Company HQ) without rampant stuttering though.

Seems I was mistaken when I said I was running low shaders. I was running medium. When I switch to low, a lot of my stuttering problem goes away. The difference; reflections.

I'll take a swag and say a good portion of the problem may be planetary reflections on complex objects. But then again, I don't code, so what do I know?
