X3-Factional RP, OOC Thread.

Post by Admiral Jeran Korak »

The traditional OOC thread to prevent clutter in the main RP thread. Please direct any and all questions here. I and others will do my best to answer them.

Faction Submission Sheet

Location

Leadership

Ideology/Race

Military(If any)

Brief History

GuideLines

Factions should not be to large, posses overwhelming numbers, military might, technological advances or influence within any goverment sphere. A large democratic cooperation within the Argon core sectors weilding a reasonable ammount of military power (A few TL's, a goverment leased/private owned M2 and any reasonable number of fighters) would be fine. A terrorist group with ancient technology and several million members would most decidedly not be. If you wish to create a faction that is located in the same sectors as another, you should discuss it with that person first.

for those not familiar with Factions RP, perhaps a few basics first?
like: where to start, how does it all work, what are the rules, etc

EDIT: ok, I read through "X-Universe Factional RP"
and I am still not sure how it all works, so I'll see until someone else posts there first

Powergaming and metagaming. Que?

Never actually participated in an RP thread before, but I'm very much interested in this one.

I'm assuming metagaming would be simply recounting actual games of X3 in the thread, or similar? Just a guess. I've not heard either of the above terms before.

Thanks in advance!

Powergaming doesn't really apply in RP's though I can see where the Admiral got it from. Basically no Ubering (ie, no taking on 19 M2's in a Disco and winning completely unscathed...or winning at all really, unless you can RP well, REALLY well (I know one person who can do this)).

Metagaming I'm not sure applies either, basically metagaming would be starting up X3 and going straight for the free ships, because YOU know they're there, but your character would not.

Fiksal, basically, you create a faction and roleplay it. In other words, you ARE the faction (your actual character could be a leader or lowest of the low, but you still make the faction do everything).

I've probably left ALOT unclear, anyone feel free to repost or PM or anything :)

yeah, so how does this whole thing work step by step.

1. create faction
2. start physically playing X3 with those stats?
3. post results here?
4. then what?

1. Create faction
2. Think of story
3. Write story/post from perspective of character(s) in Faction.
4. Story evolves and continues as other users join and post.

I assume, anyway, this being an RP thread. *Shrugs* like I say, new to this. But I've a few friends who've played in others.

Fiksal, this whole thing is played in the other thread. Each faction vies for power and control. Say, I'm a terrorist organisation and you're a branch of Argon military, you'd try and eradicate my group, while I tried to disrupt everyone (or the people my group has something against).

Remember the games you used to play as a kid, pretending you were a noble knight or something? This is basically a more complicated version of that, and written down.

yeah I kinda see how it works

my only experience with board games is well.... with stuff like DnD and step by step conquering games.

Which is why I previously asked if there's one 'game master' that controls the overall story, where the players are merely characters.

Without one and set of rules the game may not only decent into chaos but kinda wonder out there without a point.
Me thinks :)

I'm thinking what you are too, to be honest. A good RP always has a storyline, and the creator tends to steer the players down that path. Basically like your typical Dungeons and Dragons, just done on a computer and without crazy dice...

So... do we create a faction and submit it to AJK for approval, or simply say 'this is my faction, have a look' and get on with it?

how detailed and how long?

and how does it all work when everyone has their own story, with no central story?

exactly.

back in a day, I tried to do a Firefly/X3 like RP Game, with a dice ( :) )... I did fail miserably, BUT, that doesnt mean they arent possible.
I dare to say that the characters not only dont have to be in different factions, but dont even have to be in different ships!... with a good story

Exactly, there is nothing to do with the actual, physical game itself. It is entirely forum-side.

Not all that detailed, I suppose. The backstory's all there, it being set in vanilla, plotless X3. As far as character development goes, I guess as it's an RP, you get to 'know' the other characters as you go along.

As long or short as you like, but I think you'd have to leave *some* room for the other players! ;)

And it is entirely possible to have two characters as crew aboard a single station or ship. I think there'd need to be a lot of OOC communication between the two to make sure it didn't clash or anything, though.

A very good start. Now all you need is to actually start posting on the main thread, each to their own preference really. Some RP'ers prefer to wait for a little until others have posted then jump right in, others prefer creating their own mini-plots and huge backrounds for each character. Each to his own I say, I'll probably get my submission sheet done within the next 24 hours, been overloaded with RL issues.

My first submission, might be edited later.

The Gencore Technological Alliance

Location: Headquarters located in Omicron Lyre, interests spread throughout the frontier Argon sectors with a small business outpost located in PTNI Headquarters.

Leadership: Official leader is Jeran Korak, formerly Jeran Jid’din of the now-dead Argon Jid’din Grand Family.

Ideology/Race: Primarily Argon, through some Boron scientists are also employed by the company.

Military(If any): The Gencore are known for their expansive technological research program which is their primary field of commerce. Therefore they posses a moderately-sized, well-equipped and professionally trained fighter force consisting primarily of military surplus Argon Nova’ and Boron Barracuda, as well as several M6 patrol ships and the Gencore Flagship, a retrofitted M7 Frigate, Renegade Commander.

History: Gencore are a relatively new corporation founded from the last funds of a dying Argon Grand Family. Only time will tell if its early success will be repeated over the coming years.

EDIT: Fixed the HQ location.

Here goes nothing... :)

Carter's Hellcats

Location- The name "Carter's Hellcats" is most associated with the old Pirate core between Aladna Hill and Elena's Fortune. It's rumored that their base of operations is in Company Pride and that their standing with the Teladi and Split is good enough for them to be given reasonably safe passage.

Leadership- Captain Adrian Carter of the Cossack One (stolen Osprey class gunship), chief military officer Thrk St'st, chief engineer Manckastro.

Ideology/Race- Carter's Hellcats are generally Argon, Teladi and Split, though there are a handful of Paranid present. No Boron. Some days they are pirate, some days they are mercenary, some days they are both. Not nearly the most cutthroat of pirates, but not nearly the most trustworthy of mercenaries.

Military(If any)- their holdings consist of Cossack One and around fifteen fighter vessels- primarily Novas of varying designation, along with a handful of Mamba Raiders and two Discoverer scouts, Bulldog and Hawkeye. They have also employed a pair of Vulture class vessels, Caravan and Conestoga, for battlefield salvage, smuggling, and other transportation needs. While they do (by and large) acquire their vessels through piratical means, make no mistake- no ship of theirs flies without being at top performance. They're large enough to hurt, but small enough to retreat quickly into hiding when the cavalry arrives.

Brief History- Adrian Carter dropped out of the Argon state university system when he was twenty one to pursue the life of the adventurer in the colonies. He dropped off the radar soon after, and a good five years after that, "Carter's Hellcats" began to claw their way to the top of the piratical food chain. They mostly have little quarrel with other pirates (though occasionally there's a scrap between them and another pirate clan over some bootyswag or another) but only time will tell if this trend continues. Any member of "Carter's Hellcats" is wanted for a 1,000,000 cr. reward in Argon, Paranid, and Boron space- however, the Hellcats have such skill at going undercover that they most likely traverse no-fly space and land at restricted stations undetected with a good deal of frequency.
