Freelancer

Post by mdimasso »

Hi X-Fans! I've recently got a copy of Freelancer and after playing it for a while I've decided to try to make a server to play with a few friends.

I'm posting this here because I suppose that most of you have played different space sims before bumping into the X-Universe, including Freelancer.

So, please, all I need are instructions to have the server working and be able to connect. All I could do was to create the server, but it's not in the LAN list.

Info I thought useful:
- OS: Windows XP SP2
- Router: D-Link (DL-524)
- Firewall: Windows firewall and the one from ESET Smart Security

I have more than enough system to play the game and have the server running at the same time.

That's all, thanks in advance!

Would you not be better off checking out a Freelancers forum? There were/are lots of people here who have played it but its been a while since I've seen any mention of it.

Yes, you are right. But as I'm already registered here, the community is great, and there was a huge chance of you knowing how to do it, I prefered to try here :P

Anyway, I couldn't find an up-to-date forum to ask.

I used to do it all the time with a mate of mine, but this was ages ago. Al is right, you're probably better off asking in a Freelancer forum.

I loved freelancer, played the storyline all the way 4 times, and played a ton online as well for a while. However, compared to the "latest" it feels very limited, both in single and multiplayer.

Mattstint, you cant stay anything, I know what you do.

Freelancer had much more of the exploration and surprises theme, though. If you just flew by the standard routes you missed a good half of all stations, including the places that sold the best ships/equipment.

The storyline was, err, unusual. Although the Nomads were pretty and colourful.

I do though
Warning: the preceding post almost certainly contains bad grammar and spelling, sarcasm, British humour, general insanity and excessive amounts of Progressive Rock.

Coming back to topic :P

You just executed the FLServer.exe and went into the game and the server was there?

I still think so many, including here, could learn from FL, you really felt part of something. Online, well I did that alot, so long ago. Now I think I will wait until my new system (March) and then join up to EVE for a year.

Far as I can remember yes. Have you tried that?

Seriously, it was that long ago that I've probably forgotten half of it. Nothing to do with being distracted by mattstint's suggestion.

I was merely stating the quality innuendo in your post.

You left yourself wide open for a full volley :D

Lesson learnt, I'll bear in mind the innuendo-seeking member of the forum in future. :p

British Leyland? You're showing your age. The company hasn't existed (under that name at least) for over 20 years!
