[Script Idea] Software Package

I was thinking of a ware you could purchase from EQ Docks, that when activated, installed any of the missing basic command softwares (Nav, Fight, Special and Trade Mks I&II) from the ship activated on.

I wanted it to have a reasonable price on its own, say about 5k, and to charge the price of each software installed. This would be for convinience. However, since my scripting skills are somewhat poor, I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to start with.

There is one script out somewhere Called Electronic package or something in the sticky, but im also working on something similar it will allow user to *download* them. Once the command has been sent to the ship it will go to the nearest HQ ( if any if you dont have it wont work ), Nice when you just got few ship out of your HQ production line.

I was feeling somewhat bored, and it's something I've had rattling around in my head for a while anyway, so I've just scripted this up.

Not quite finished yet, but what I have is:

New wares - General software pack has SETA, boost extension, Duplex/Triplex scanner (depending on which race you buy from,) Special Command Mk1, Nav Command Mk1. Fight Command Software pack has Fight Command Mk1 & 2. Trade Command Software pack has Trade Command Mk1 & 2. I'll shortly add a pack for Engine Tuning/Rudder Optimisation/Cargo Bay Extension.

It will work similarly to LVs jumpdrive kits - with any of the packs on the ship, a command will appear to install available packs, which will add anything in the packs that the ship is missing. If the ship doesn't need anything the pack provides, the pack isn't used up, otherwise it will use one pack.

The packs will be available at eq docks of all races. There will be two flavours of the general software pack - one with duplex scanner for those that don't sell triplex, and the one with triplex scanner for those that do.

I'm using Cycrows custom wares, so you'll need the latest plugin manager.

A long time ago, I made "trader" packages. in this way, but they've since been lost to numerous reformats.

It's a very handy idea. :)

Ummm... because I'm having fun doing it? :wink:

Well, ok - I didn't know about that one. But still, as I said, I was bored. And it *was* fun. Plus I like mine better! (No offense arcana :) I like all my scripts better than anyone elses.)

Unless anyone wants it, I'll keep this as my private script then.

Theirs a simple reason for that... If you wrote it, you know what its suspose to do therefore you dont try to break it as you wrote it in the first place.

Thats just a incite from a programmers view of all programming languages.

eladan, I like yours better, too. arcana's is a bit too complex and messy for me. If you want to make it available, I'll probably use it. :)

That would be an element of it, but I think there's also an element of 'This is my child.' :)

I'd be the last guy to dissuade someone from scripting but i also know it would be annoying to write something that's already been done if you didn't know about it ;)

well if he wants to write something thats been done already let him...he will bring another way of doing things to the community and he may put in something that the other one doesnt have or what ever...hey the more the marrier...I like to have options of doing the same task...thats what makes this game so fun...you can do the same boreing task many different ways with scripts...hehe...I will give this a try...seeing as I always end up with large fleets of cap'd ships this should help me make sure they get every thing they need with out worrying if I already upgraded a ship or not...keep them commin :D

Had I known about arcanas script, I probably wouldn't have bothered - can only blame myself there, for not searching before I started. But there were a couple of things I had been looking for an excuse to test anyway (Cycrows custom wares, primarily,) and I was looking for something to do, so I actually wasn't really irritated. :)

Someone had better use it now that I've uploaded it though - I hate writing readmes, and I don't want to have done it for nothing! :D

:lol: well im useing it and its what I wanted :D quick and easy upgrade and I dont even have to remember what ships got what...just use this and every thing (with in the package) is installed....very good time saver too :)...


my current fleet:


20 pirate ships (caped)

2 Xenon ships (guess they were caped when I just caped anything sitting still?)

41 boron ships (yea I hate the boron and they kinda hate me)

8 capitial ships (carriers mostly) [useing signail bail extention]

30 freighters (mostly pirate freighters, some boron freighters mixed in TS/TL)

2 TP (argon pirates)


so as u can see I dont want to manually go through and upgrade each ship one by one...oh and my fleet continues to grow (the fleet number are current as of writing this post at 10:45AM EST) by the time I come back im sure to have more ships... :twisted:
