[Wallpaper] -Homecoming-

Post by Aken_Bosch »

Heh, I did it again :)

"HOMECOMING"
[ external image ]

This time simpler (a lot less elements and levels than usual), but the objective was just to put in image the very same flash I had in mind one day while playing...the vision of my ship (well, it wasn't a Nemesis, but actually that's more scenic) slowly approaching my HQ around the planet of Treasure Chest, dozens of ship like small dots floating around it....

Well, maybe in my mind there was a bit more of detail, but I'm not that good at making these things :P

Enjoy

Wow :o
That was my first thought when I saw this picture :) Very beautiful sunrise and shadow effects. ant the Nemesis looks totally awesome ^^ (And I dont say this only because I like the Paranid ships.)

Looking great  :o

how did you insert the ships in the picture? Cut out of screenshots or from renders?
(Looks too good to be painted, if you really painted them, sorry  )

Nope, you're right, I don't go beyond square-tree and stick-men with hand painting :D

For now I can only cut out ships from screenshots (though accurately set up)...only problem with this metod, is that on my 15" I can't go over 1024x768 for in-game resolution, thus making 1600x1200 images a bit harder to do....no more close-up of ships like in my first 1024x768 images (the ones on the GOTY dvd, for example).
The Nemesis in the image, is a fullscreen capture on 1:1 scale, and is only a bit more than half the width...the blur effect is also to hide the pixelated edges, and even 6x AA can't do miracles

Maybe one day I'll find the method and the skill to do my own renders with game models...but for now  ...

BTW thanks all :D

Well, you could ask someone to import the ships you want on your wallpapers into 3DsMax and render them. Then you don't have to cut them out of a screenshot and you can have as high resolutions as you want. :)
(besides the ships look sometimes better in 3DsMax renders as in the games ^^)

I thought about something similar, but problem is that I spend a lot of time testing the various positions and perspectives, often taking multiple screenshots, then using the one that fits best....it would be a bigger problem, leaving to someone else the task of rendering in the right position...

I should get 3DsMax (i tried Blender, open source, but it's an enormous pain in the a** :o), learn a bit, than try it myself  ....

8) awsome jobb here, i'm cureus on how you made the clouds?! cud you if posible make a tutorial on how, not anny fancy or anny thing just an how.

and how manny layers are there, i can only asume it is alot of them the earth and upp !

anny how it is a real nice picture altho i would like to see less of the flare inferno, it is taking away the main focus of the ship and the station and then being the senter focus of the picture.

No offence only i little C&C

What kind of clouds are you asking about? Space clouds are usually just fractal renderings (made with apophysis), or real clouds from stock photos, obviously edited and composited to look like nebulas...the ones on the planet, well, they aren't mine, they're real from a Shuttle mission 8) ...

About the "flare inferno"....after spending some hours just to compare thousands of different version of that piece of image, never finding the right balance, I came to the point that it's a most subjective thing...and I liked it more that way, sorry

Thanks :D
