X-BtF : adjusting controls

Post by okeee »

X-Beyond the Frontier:
How do you adjust ALL controls that you use in the game, all keys and mouse settings as well. In the options menu, only a few keys can be configured and mouse settings not at all.

Thats all that you can adjust, when the game was released that was pretty advanced.

When I go to the key mapping menu, all I can change is the left and right mouse button. I can't configure keyboard keys at all. Is it supposed to be like this?

I haven't played X-BTF for a while and I remember getting fustrated for the same reasons as you do today. The answer to your question: Is it supposed to be like this? is Yes.

Later, MBD.

Yes, it is supposed to be like that. In fact, the ability to fully customise the keyboard controls did not exist in any X game prior to X3.

ok i see.
and whenever you use SETA, there is a big screen in front, is it possible to activate seta without that screen, because it's a bit of an obstacle to view outside.

another thing, sometimes when i try buying energy sells in some plant,
i get the message: 'unable to sell resources' (enough money) why is this?

about save games: when i want to delete a specific save game, can i just delete the save file from the game folder, without influencing other save games?

Because you can't buy resources. You can only buy products at a station. The only place to buy energy cells is at a Solar Power Plant. All other stations use energy as a resource, and you can sell them energy but not buy it.

Nope. You can freely delete individual savegames without interfering with other saves.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

It sounds like you are trying to buy Energy Cells from a station other than a Solar Power Plant. Other stations may buy Energy Cells for use as resources (as the message tells you) but they won't sell them to you because they need them!

Edit: Too slow. :)

ok, and do you know about this:
whenever you use SETA, there is a big screen in front to confirm that you're using SETA. is it possible to activate SETA without showing that screen, because it's a bit of an obstacle to view outside.

Nope, it's not possible. Try upping the contrast a bit on your screen though.

It was rather a long time ago, but if the screen pops up when you press the SETA activation key then I doubt there's any way to get rid of it.

ok. about trading energy sells.. it seems i was indeed trying to buy the resources. But now i understand a little bit better how these plants work.

I just bought a solar power plant. also filled it with a lot of crystals, so there are a few 1000 energy sells in stock. But i do not seem to get them sold. I've set the sell price at 12 cr. always when i check the plant info, I see lots of energy sells in stock, 0 factory credits and 0 freighters. So it seems I do not get any profit from the solar power plant right?

No, not right. You should make a good profit from it. Just be patient. It takes time for stations to decide to send their freighters to your factory to buy, and even longer for them to actually get there.

o ok, well the solar power plant is between 2 other solar power plants, and I do not see a lot of freighters coming in this area. I guess that you have to pick a good spot. But how do you decide what spot is right for any kind of plant?

By looking at what resources are required in the area. If you find an area with a lot of factories requiring Teladianium, but there are no factories producing that resource nearby, then build one yourself!

Note that Solar Power Plants have to be supplied manually with crystals by yourself in BTF. Also, you can set the price a LOT lower than 12Cr and still make a profit--if you do that it's more likely you'll sell.

So, all other plants do not need any resource input at all?

Actually, how do you get the transporter (of your plant), to a specific place? I was talking to him, and all I could say was: 'drop factory here'. When I went to another place, he was just standing on his place, he did not follow me.

also: is it a good idea to upgrade your ship as good as possible? (best shield etc.)

I would like to build a large plant area, with all different sorts of plants.
Is any area ok, profitable, as long as I consider the needed resources in that area?

No, other plants still require resources, but you can hire freighters in the factory menu to supply those. Only SPPs have to be supplied manually.

I can't remember the thing about the transport--I think you have to comm him and ask him to follow you; you can't specify exactly where he'll drop the factory, it'll just be somewhere close to either his or your location at the time (I forget which).

You should always upgrade your shields and weapons as much as possible--you'll need them later in the X-BTF plotline.

because now and then, its quite hard to find a certain plant...

some other things:
Is it possible not to be scanned by anyone (for cargo your carrying)? Its very annoying.
If you have a plant with defense ships inside, when the plant is attacked, will they automatically go out and destroy the attacker?
