Xtended Fog Mod
One of my pet hates in vanilla X3 was the fog. I was able to remove it with the Nebel-Ex mod which unfortunately does not work with Xtended. This led me to play around with producing a mod to make the Nebulae in Xtended more like the way I would like them.
This is the result, it changes the minimum draw distance for all sectors to 120k and moves the fog out by 10k in the excessively foggy sectors like Queen's Space. Screenshot of Queen's Space using the mod: http://gallery.filefront.com/avicenna/95690/
The mod installs as a false patch using Cycrow's installer.

Please feel free to make any comments on its effectiveness.[/img]

Get Rid Of The Fog?
I'm wondering if anyone out there has a vanilla mod or script that will dramatically increase the draw distance in nebulae.
I used to use Avicenna's XTended Fog Mod but I'm not sure if XTended is required and there'll be some kinda malfunction without XTended. Ideally I'd like something along those lines which would work with the vanilla game. If someone has a link to a vanilla mod like this or could make one that would be absolutely great.
Many thanks.

Xtended is definitely needed for my mod.
I produced it as a replacement for the Nebel Ex mod in the vanilla game.
The link for Nebel Ex is http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=110083
The various measurements (15, 30, 120, etc) mentioned in the name of each version of the mod indicate the draw distance. Place the mod files in the mod folder and select the appropriate mod when you start

The translation I have for that page indicates that it removes the nebulae entirely, which seems alittle excessive; also I'm not entirely sure how to install mods and the like without Cycrow's Installer. Plus I'm also not sure if you can select multiple mods in the menu (I use Ashley's Fabs).
Was whatever you did which kept the nebulae but increased the draw distance within them difficult to do and putting it into a lil' thingie for Crycrow's Installer difficult to do? If not I guess I could try and work out how to do it
Thanks again.

The fog is already badly designed in the game. You can see the stars and planets outside it, but not the stations. Illogical. Stars should't suddenly dissapear if you happen to fly toward an asteroid.
Either removing the fog completely or changing the necessary background images would be a viable solution.

It requires XTM. A vanilla X3 mod is http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=110083. As Avicenna states in their post.

You could use Nebel Ex with Ashley's fabs, providing that it does not add extra sectors to vanilla X3. The way to do it is to convert it into a false patch. This is a fairly simple process, you simply decide which version of nebel ex that you want to use, install the appropriate cat and dat files into the main X3 directory and rename them to the next free number in the cat and dat file list.
I would suggest giving Nebel ex a try, in my opinion it is far superior to mine in the vanilla game.
It wasn't that difficult but it did require me to learn how to mod, then convert the resultant mod into a false patch that would install with Cycrow's installer. It is a lot more complex than installing a premade mod, or converting it into a false patch that can then packaged for use with Cycrow's installer. Was whatever you did which kept the nebulae but increased the draw distance within them difficult to do and putting it into a lil' thingie for Crycrow's Installer

The starfield (as far as I know) is not rendered, it is part of the background image that everything else is rendered over. So any change to the background would be a non trivial total redraw of the background.
