How to deal with Nova's & their rear turrets

Post by BlakesSeven »

Try firing a Wasp (swarm type) missle at them from 2.5kms....keeps the rear turret busy while you shoot at the ship!

Anybody found any better ways?

The wasp method I use for capital ships. Another way is to adjust your speed to 10 or 20 ms lower than theirs, and dance around their rear turret fire. This gets more difficult if the target has wingmen though.

Yeah, hit them from the side with HEPTs, stop briefly at approx 80% hull for possible capture and if not then destroy. Makes them no threat at all :)

Strafe drive won't move you fast enough to dodge fire at less than 500m from a nova turret, keep out at 800m and it's childs play to avoid incoming fire.

This also helps when the nova has 'friends' since you strafe to avoid their fire too.

That's how I deal with them. Good old fashion broad-siding.

Nova

If you can out run them attack from the front and turn and run at just outside a mile, repeat as necessary! You can use the strafe drive to dodge the incoming shots and can dodge the rear turret as long as you stay outside .800 range. they're only dangerous in my experience when they present the turret at close range.

Fire and run wait for it to turn towards you (the laser fire changes colour)

Repeat until bails or dead. Works in any ship fast enough to get away from the rear turret including M4's.

Got whooped by 4 Mamba raiders on an assassination mission by trying the same tactic

Ah well die and learn.

I find staying further out if you're on his six helps you stay alive better but the extra distance makes it a little harder to hit him.

If I'm not bothered about the cap and there's a group including 1 nova coming head to head with me, I stop dead at 3km out and fire on him with 4x AHEPTs only. A full load of them usually toasts a nova in one pass and since the closure speed is reduced by sitting still I find I have enough time to land enough shots on him to kill him. Just have to remember to strafe as they ingress and hit the boost key to hit full speed as the rest of the group passes, don't want to be left sitting still when all his mates turn on you.

If there's more than one Nova I'll usually fire a decent sized missile from about 8km away then turn and run from them until it hits or is shot down. If it takes out one of the Novas it's game on again using the above, if not, well I improvise :)

i have a problem with my nova. I can't figure out the difference with "protect ship" and "attack all enemies"
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for the night. Put a man on fire and he will be warm for a lifetime.
