compatible 1.3 drivers?

i was told to run the 1.3 patch i would need the latest Nvidia driver for my Geforce FX5600 card, however i have found that the latest driver available from the Nvidia website is incompatible with my card and OS. so i can't run the 1.3 version with my current card.

the driver would have to be compatible with windows XP proffesional as running simply XP version fails to work

what advice or any help can you guys give me to help me out?

plus in the future could patches please be made compatible with older drivers so i'm not left to suffer with running the 1.2 and being completely stuck.

if anyone could help with a link to a suitable driver or any help at all it would be much appreciated.

What makes you think that either the driver is incompatible with your card ot that the patch is incompatible with any particular driver version?

the driver is not incompatible with the card but its incompatible with my current OS, i.e. professional and there apppears to be no compatible recent drivers for the geforce FX5600 models that are compatible windows xp preofessional, that can run the game at 1.3, so i was asking for any older versions that are compatible with XP proffessional and be capeable of running v1.3

Sorry, but I'm really not with you. The latest nVidia drivers (81.98 ), like all of the ones released in recent years, support all GeForce models on both flavours of WinXP and also on Win2K. Unless you have an obscure model of manufacturer-specific laptop card, they supply one single unified driver for all models on these platforms.

Aside from some graphical glitches on a small number of cards with particular driver versions, I am also not aware of any compatibility issues between any version of X³ and any nVidia driver versions.

Perhaps if you described the actual problem you are having someone might be able to give you some more detailed advice. It may well be that your problem has nothing to do with your graphics drivers, so please supply your full system specifications.

i'll start from the begining, when i first updated X3 to 1.3 version i had issues running it e.g. textures disappearing. I was told by another who had this problem that updating to the latest driver from Nvidia would fix this however, on running the driver and installing it i have serious problems as my computer graphics were seriously impared, i.e. no colours were right the screen resolution was incorrect and could not be fixed in the display settings, inorder to return my machine to normal i had to roll back to older drivers which cannot run the game with the 1.3 patch due to in game texture problems....

so i was asking for any older driver versions that are compatible with the new 1.3 patch that i will be able to run with the GeForce FX5600 and XP proffesional. that won't impare my system.

I've got exactly the same problem as Reed. I also found that the WIN XP 81.98 driver for my Geforce 5600 did not work on my OS (XP Professional 2002 and an AMD Athlon XP 2500+), it just further corrupted my X3 v1.3 graphics, and also corrupted the graphics on the rest of my games, including GTA:SA (which used to run fine).

I also downloaded the WIN XP Professional 64-bit 81.98 drivers (how many bits is the XP Pro 2002 version???), but they would not even install.

Please let me reiterate: I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY GRAPHICAL PROBLEMS WITH ANY 'X' GAMES ON MY CURRENT OPERATING SYSTEM, USING MY OLDER NVIDIA GRAPHICS DRIVERS, UNTIL I INSTALLED PATCH 1.3 FOR X3.

I'm running 77.77 with X3, and they work fine.

i just downloaded and tried the 77.77 version driver, it had the same results as the 81.98, i am currently using a very old 56.73 version which does not ruin my graphics but doesn't allow me to run the v1.3.

anyone got an in depth knowledge of drivers to help on this?

it would interest me to know what driver villa is using.
and anyone else with a Geforce FX 5600 using windows XP proffesional, please post up.

Have you followed nVidias installation hints before installing new drivers?

Oh bugger. Just spent the last hour or so downloading the 77.77 drivers on my old 56k modem (don't laugh), after Heinzharald's advice, only to find that won't work either (stop laughing).

Reed, I currently have the 52.16 drivers installed: fine for everything except X3 v1.3.

Bloody hell I need broadband.

Took HeinzHaralds other bit of advice about reading the installation hints before installing 77.77, as I thought, now that I've downloaded it, I might as well use it.

Thanks HeinzHarald, my X3 v1.3 is now glitch free! (main menu is fine now and the ingame graphics look healthy too).

Reed, make sure you avoid download managers when downloading from Nvidia and also make sure that you have uninstalled the old drivers first. Worked for me!!!

I'm running the latest 81.98 drivers on XP Pro with no problem at all! My graphics cards are different to yours, but I've just checked and the 81.98 drivers do offer support for these cards :-
