[Spoilers ]Alternative play modes?

Post by Ryuujin »

Does anyone know if the alternaive game modes are implemented, and worked out how to unlock them? - Looking inside the game, the game modes appear to be:
Spoiler
Show
Normal
Quickstart
X-TREME
Aspiring Explorer
Humble Merchant
Bankrupt Assassin
Enemy of the State
Anonymous Argon
Boring Boron
Pious Paranid
Savage Split
Teladi Trafficker
Goner Witness
Kha'ak Invader (!!!)
Anyone sussed out how to get those play modes, or are they just another features-not-yet-implemented? (I've finished X3 story in Normal difficulty)

ehh? did the red options show up only after you compleated the plot or what? I have never seen them, but one article I read said somthing about it.
"Somewhere between an American Pageant and Starship Troopers! "I want to save the environment, and drown in the blood of our enemies Sir!"
Welcome to the New British Empire!"

Yeah I was wondering that too, the khaak one would be neat.

Oh yeah and this has nothing to do with the plot the aforementioned game modes just plain aren't in the game (thus not technically a spoiler)

Spaceweed: No I dragged them out of the game files, I can't see any way to force-enable them at a glance. There's also descriptions more precisely detailing the game modes. The race modes are just starting out as a civvie of those races, Goner's I presume you get the usual Goner perks (Company car etc ;p ), Khaak sounds like it's straight out rampage, and Enemy of the state is basiclly pirate, nobody likes you.

Edit:
Looking at it more, the Boron mode you play as a Lar intrestingly (Lar is like a 3rd gender Borons have for those not up on your X Lore, Menelaus is a Lar). And the Difficulty rating for playing as a Kha'ak is simply marked "Are you insane?!"

Edit, Again
I poked about elsewhere and found the portraits for the various game modes. ie. Bankrupt assasin, goner, julian etc. In the same order as the game modes are listed, and check out the final piccy on the list:

Possibly the first official in-game piccy of a Kha'ak :khaak:

If I was designing it, I'd unlock the play as "X" race starts after you do something related to that race... either high or low faction, or kill some number of them, or wipe them out entirely, or somesuch.

Enemy of the state... well, probably some number of captured ships, or some level of negative faction with all the races, or somesuch.

Khaak? Probably when you unlock all the rest.

These game modes can be enabled by editing your registry.
Spoiler
Show
The key is "GameStarts" located in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EGOSOFT\X3

and needs to be changed from 0000003f to 000fffff
The game modes do work but there are probably problems with them which would be the reason why they were disabled in the first place. This method enables them without the need to mod the game in any way so clearly they do exist in the code which makes me think they were disabled specifically because they had problems.

I unlocked them and tried playing as the khaak, the description indicating that you'd have to be insane to try this was definately accurate. I lasted about 10 minutes and that was with some rather fancy flying and pure luck.

I've unlocked the Argon and Split ones as a part of my plot game, somone else playing the game has unlocked the Boron play option too. The only way I know to unlock all of them is to change a registry key however.

there's a dword value for gamestarts - default is 0000017F

changing it to 000fffff will give you all the start points

If you don't feel like editing the registry yourself you can use

http://stashbox.org/uploads/1134125953/ ... locker.zip

which contains reg files for the default and all starts setting, and also a short readme. Credit to Lollerich on the SA forums for finding the link for me :)

I don't think you should call them disabled, they are bonusstarts. Exactly what the conditions are to get them I don't know. But I unlocked Pious Paranid. Other reported to have unlocked other starts.

But thanks anyway, this answered the question how I can save this unlocked mode when reinstalling next week. Only need to export that key.

Well I didn't know you could unlock them in game, guess I'll give it a shot that way then (I disabled them again anyway since playing as the khaak made me want to puch my computer, they really do suck in X3).

Hehe, khaak sounds tough to play. Yeah I will wait and see what gets unlocked. I wish at least the game could tell me when I unlock something. Or better that someone knew the conditions to unlock the modes. Now you have to check new starts every day, to see if there's a new start in there.

For some reason I was automatically able to play the first three extra modes. "Explorer", "Merchant", "Bankrupt Assassin". The later ones, however for me are not unlocked.

So far my favorite has been the bankrupt assassin. You start with an M3 fighter with 2 Alpha- plasma throwers... which can pretty much take down any m6-m3, as well as TS with ease. Also you start hostile to the boron and paranid. What made this fun is that even though it says "most asuradly hard" as the rating... it was the easiest of them all to start with. Within a few minutes in a pirate sector, I was able to capture 3 super frieghters each of which sold for 400,000+ credits. (At the start, they don't have any freight on them though). So, instant millionare. Which I then invested into fast new TS ships (cheaper and faster) to start my trading ship empire with. Now all was going well until recently.... now I can hardly play for 10 minutes with out freezing.

Everyone gets the modes Aspiring Explorer, Humble Merchant and Bankrupt Assassin. And I agree bankrupt assassin is by far the most fun mode I tried so far.

For the khaak start, do you still start in Argon space? Can you purchase khaak ships?

There is an unlocker for these modes somewhere on the forum. I believe it was put together by Galaxy613 so credit goes to him.

I can't find the post anymore but I've got a copy here.

It unlocks all the extra starting points mentioned above.

Hope that helps. Enjoy.

The Khaak start point starts you off in Company Pride IIRC in a Khaak M3 as part of a cluster

The starting point is random.

Change your friend, foe setting.

At the start you can only dock at pirate bases.

Good luck!

P.S. Try to get back to your home sectors!
