upgrades and strange factoies

:?As a veteran x2 addict i am playing x3 with a mixture of joy, amazement, confusion and down right frustration. What i would like to know is there any0one out there who can tell me:-
1. how to get the sytem override software to work
2. what (if any) use the crystal splitter factory is

1. For the system overide to work u must target an empty ship that has no pilot, get close to it within 30 metters or so, bring up the ships information panel, by hitting the "i" key usualy, and u should have an option called claim. Select it and the ship is yours.
2. That crystal spliting factory is plot related and does nothing as far as i know.

does anyone think that the unknown objests are the cloak shields we were promised?have to go, emmanuelle on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The unknown object are usually new type of missiles and other uselless stuff, but u can sell them on good money at equipment docks, this has worked fine for me until now.
