A strange discovery, advice needed.

Post by plynak »

Greetings,

after installing the latest patch, I have discovered, that the game has terrible stuttering when approaching an object or strgate as well as in some systems.

However, yesterday and today I have found a strange thing. If I run EVE online prior X3 and the launch X3, the game has no stuttering and runs like hell. I am a little confused now, so would appreciate any advice on what may cause this. Not everyone has EVE on line.

Thanks for any tips how is this possible.

I'm guessing a bit here but I presume you're online all the time. In this case it's most likely that a background program is accessing the internet and that causes the problems.

Hello Euclid,

no I am not on line all the time. I use an USB ADSL modem. So I do not connect to inet if I do not want to.

It is really strange. Looks like something in memory. Can someone from EGOSOFT put a little light to this, please?

Hi Plynak,

Try this:

1) download and install WinPatrol (search Google for it).

2) open WP and check all running processes (print the list or make notes)

3) connect to EVE, disconnect and

4) do 2) again.

Now you have two lists of running processes, compare them. The problem is caused by those processes which are not in the sceond list but in the first, or the problem is resolved by those processes which are not in the frist but in the second.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Euclid

Thank you Euclid, you pointed me to a right direction. Problem solved. I simply disconnected USB modem and the game runs incredibly fast! Maybe someone should add this to F.A.Q. (if it is not there already, in which case I am stupid not to find it).

For those of you with sound that's looping have you tried re-encoding the mp3s. You can use a free program, such as dbpoweramp.

It's a trick I learnt from here for X2 and when messing about with codecs didn't work for X3 I just re-encoded all the mp3s, even using the same bit-rate, and TA-DA no more sound problems and the game runs silky smooth. I've since had no crash to desktops either.

If you've tried everything else it's quite simple to do this and it might help you. :)

Oops, wrong thread. Sorry. :D
