Should I get back to X-Rebirth now?
Hi there,
I was playing this for a while after launch and I did enjoy the game but numerous bugs and problems made my interest fade away.
I haven't really followed this project for a long time, so I'd like to ask that what is the status of the game now, should I start playing again and what is the plan for the future?

Hello,
Things are much less buggy since I started playing during the 1.25 beta, and a lot of features have been added since then too. If you enjoyed it in the past, I guess the answer to your question depends on the nature of the problems you were experiencing in the past. Would you be able to elaborate?
For a relatively quick run-down on the bigger changes over time, you could skim through the changes labelled in bold font by Egosoft in the change logs here.
Over time, Egosoft have released a few document and video guides to major changes. You can find those, along with some player guides, linked from the wiki here.
Regards,
Sparks

It seems to run fine for me. It was mostly fixed after about 2.5, and we are now at 3.61.
Note that Egosoft is still supporting and fixing, and another DLC expansion is rumored. They had a bug due to a Steam patch the other day, and Egosoft got a hotpatch out on like two days.
It all depends, of course, on what kind of game you like. This is a game not like any other game. The whole universe runs at once, not just the "room" that you are in right now. So some things are slower, but other things are more fun. Or more frustrating, it all depends!
I am having fun. Since you already have the game, it is definitly worth it to download and try it.

Every issue I had bug-wise was gone after patch 2.50, after that - it just kept getting better.
There are still some occasional hickups like capital ships flying through highways (but they do move out and don't bug out by just standing there), or a random small trader flying through the station, but I haven't had a single gamebreaking bug in ages.
If the bugs alone, and the performance issues made you quit - I'd say it's pretty safe to come back and enjoy the game

I can't even remember the last time I had a Crash to Desktop playing Rebirth?
Something around 3.1.
I only get the odd performance slow downs and like you, some visual bloopers.
I haven't seen the Head's of NPC's/Yisha inflate for quite some time.
Still annoyed with getting stuck in Stations and Ships, but I can live with that.
Now they just need to fix my top 3 peeves and I think i'll be good for that Expansion/sequel.

I'm having fun. I'd say go for it.
The campaign has weird difficulty spikes etc, but I thought it was ok. However, it didn't give me that 'X' feeling. Afterwards I started up a free-play, and finally I feel like I'm playing X again (although I still can't get used to those damn highways..hate them).

I guess it is best for me to start free play and not trying to redo the campaign again?
One thing I remember for example is that the economy was broken, when I was trying to build a station I was never getting the supplies I needed etc. That must be fixed by now?
Overall how is the "economy" in the game now?
Thanks for the replies guys, I might re-install the game and try it again.

Campaign vs. free play is up to you. The only caveat is that a certain plot-related station will never be built in a free play game (unless you mod your game, of course).
Beyond that station and the main plot missions, anything you can do from a campaign start can be done in free play (including DLC content).

Apart from there being a ridiculous amount of Turrets, F.Generators that will never go down into high demand as it produces too many, too quickly.. Apart from that the economy is working fine, there is a shortage of water in Omicron Lyrae, that has lead to a shortage of produce and food leading to a shortage further up the chain so loads to exploit there.
Also a lack of food, Nvidium Cubes and Tech in Albion that i'm trying to exploit but every station I build sees another resource running low.
So getting the balance is tricky.
Works 95% I would say. Worth playing.

Campaign has been fixed to be completable (is that a word?). There are IIRC 4 extra stations you gain from the campaign, including a much-neededdevastat_ wrote:I guess it is best for me to start free play and not trying to redo the campaign again?

DV economy is broken by design; it's a player playground to do whatever they want with. Established economies (OL, Alb) work well unless <player> destabilises them IME. The addition of station-building missions helps somewhat, but be aware of the caveats.. including that the station you build is yours, not the NPC's, so be careful which mission(s) you accept! One thing I remember for example is that the economy was broken, when I was trying to build a station I was never getting the supplies I needed etc.

that s weird.Klemitch wrote:Well, economy still feels broken to me. I can't find any worthwhile trades. Everything I find loses money or at best makes minimal profits. The combat missions are unbalanced. I'm trying to like this game, but having a hard time doing so.
i got myself 2-3 mil credit profit each trade.
and combat is rather not that really difficult.
there is 2 enemy titurel 10 fighter escort, i destroy 1 titurel and all fighter, got the price money for 2 mill and board the last titurel that i sold for 8 mil with only a skunk and no missile

I'd agree, it's not as bad as pre-2.0 A.I, they try and dodge though, so that's an improvement.
They used to just sit there and let you shoot them.
