I'm not so sure about this.

I'm pretty sure (I haven't tested) that personal ware containers (chocolate rations etc) are vulnerable to blast, while 'ware' containers (fusion reactors etc) aren't; certainly ISTR a lot less 'circles' (or 'dots' on radar) showing up after a blast than before..

As far as i know are all dropped containers from an exploding ship invulerable to its own explosion damage.

_____________

UAV report 140915- unknown structure found

The art department UAV discovered a new unknown station the outskirts of the rebirth universe. This was the last image taken before the signal to our drone was lost.

That has been how it has seemed to me too.

My guess would be that the lost circles are things like the loot of dead fighter escorts being nuked by the capital ship blast.

From what we've seen happen to Teladi architecture between games, I don't think X3's Boron and Paranid design styles will be a good measure of identifying them should they reappear in XR or beyond.

I bet my Taranis prison ship that this is Split.

Why not Paranid? The formation close to the center of the asteroid looks pretty similar to their faction logo in the trilogy.
Paranids always get excited when they built something symmetric, everyone knows that.

Ah, I see what you mean! It is now fairly obvious that EGOSOFT wants to manipulate us! Through strange asteroids
and heat-emitting ship engines that finally burn your ass, they want to distract us from the real threat,
an ancient enemy that is infiltrating our society as we speak!

Still saying Split and you have a very powerful fantasy to see this faction logo on this asteroid and calling the asteroid "symmetric". :D

The first Split base (in Maelstroem) was in an asteroid like structure, with cables flying around everywhere and small little structures on top. Split are known to be living in clusters or "families", isolating themselfes from everyone else and being highly racist.
They are the kind of race I would suspect to live in an asteroid, isolated, searching for space fly eggs. See it even fits the X lore!!!

Split would make most sense from a Dev PoV: they already have (most of) the artwork so little time lost there..

Paranid would also make sense from a <hints> PoV, although I don't really see Paranid deigning to live in a hollowed-out 'roid no matter how big.. doesnt lore state they need lots of space?.. Plus their tech advantage & mindset would enable them to at least create something that /looks/ better than a crater-pitted piece of debris..

Highly unlikely to be Boron IMO, for numerous reasons too obvious to mention

Terran? Possibly, but it's an outside chance..

Whatever it is, I think we're looking at the side, with a possibly-illuminated crater over the top edge. Makes me think it has hints of Bond villain.

That's definitely not Split IMO.
Look at that structure in the middle. Looks a bit Paranid-ish, but Iam not certain as it's a bit too "uncultured" for Paranid style.

A great lord of the Paranid Empire granted my petty existence a small insight into the Paranid's superior understanding
of symmetry. Do not even try to comprehend it on your own! Your body will explode. :paranid:

No, I meant the small building between the center and the top left of the picture.

Maybe I'm seeing things but the UAV image looks to me like it could contain an X Trilogy Solar Power Plant.

I'm intrigued by what looks like a relatively regular arrangement of 6 circles around a central circle on the distant rock in the top right. Could be completely random of course.

LOL guys are you drunk or high? Boron? Paranid? Split?

I'm looking at the image with maximum zoom and all that I can see is typical asteroid with a dot that looks like hangar/dock entry at top-left section and vague shapes/shadows of some kind of structures in bottom-right part.
Nothing indicating anything racial-traits.

From lore point Split asteroid base seems the highest propability (remote location, like Maelstrom), but you also have asteroid bases in Albion and Omicron Lyrae. It can be Pirate base or it can be anything (incuding Khaak or Terran secret base).

Edit: Actually secret abbandon Terran base in DeVries would be good "Treasure-hunt" like DLC where you could extract technologies from that base automated security and give them to Canterans for more ship types in their shipyard.
