Ahh that's an issue with gtk themes, originally I did nothing but then there were issues when steam introduced their runtime, so I randomly fiddled and adding a config.gtkrc file made it better iirc;p You can try removing it from the main game folder, it might help.

I removed it and it's the same. In any case, no biggy, knowing it is just that I wouldn't consider it a bug or an issue, If I want it different I can make my own file, buttons work and I can start the game just fine, so thank you!

Well the good news is I've been working on an opengl renderer for a few months already. And it's progressing reasonably well, though there have been quite a few distractions so not as fast as I'd like, also a bunch of annoying issues.
But things are slowly falling into place, many issues are solved or a solution is on the horizon, many things look promising.
In the long run I'm aiming for an AZDO renderer, which is a tricky transition to do from DX9;)

There's still quite a bit to do with opengl and I haven't started on linux/mac code at all. So there's still no realistic timeline, unfortunately.
But I might start a thread a bit like the "Behind the scenes" one, got a few funny screenshots of what the game can look like if something's a tiny bit broken;p

Fine by me - I still have ALL of TC and ALL of AP to play through, so take your time and make it awesome. I should be ready for it some time in 2056!

Hi, I'm having a problem with the Linux version. The game doesn't seem to recognize my joystick, even though it works everywhere else and I just tested it using cat on /dev/input/js0 and I could see every joystick input. I would really like to play X3 on Linux again, but without a joystick that's impossible for me.

In the X3TC Launche the Input devices settings just give me an empty list.

Yeah the problem afaik is that SDL2 only supports the new evdev interface.
If you run evtest you'll probably see that it doesn't recognize the joystick.

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any translation module for the kernel or SDL2 patch/support for the old joystick interface.
If it was introduced more recently then I can of course update SDL2 but afaik that's not the case.

So basically I'm don't know of anything that can fix this:(

According to evtest the stick is /dev/input/event6 and it also works perfectly. Can I somehow tell X to use /dev/input/event6 ?

nvm, permissions vor every event device were only for the owner (root). Works now. Thanks for the hint

Just for info: I've got the same Problem than ezra-r, i'm on mint 17.1(rebecca)/mate.
Delete config.gtkrc doesn't make a change.
xsesion-errors is spammed with GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL entrys, with or without the configfile.

anyway, no priority as it works. it's just ugly :)

Great work btw, i love to play this in my prefered environment. thx

TC Steam(linux)

Post by Gligli »

Hi.

This is a personal translation of that topic. So, sorry for mistakes :)

I have install TC with steam(linux) on a last gen i5. Without GPU addin card.
That runs well. Great Job :)
Exept the shaders (clouds and others) which are, nomally, slowly running on biggers background planets.
Sometimes, only stripes appears. Sometimes only on a half of the planet (the other half seems allright). [edit]

libtxc-dxtn have probably been installed by Steam with the original installation.

Intel® Core™ i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz × 4
Intel® Haswell Desktop x86/MMX/SSE2
7.6 Gio
Ubuntu 14.04 32 bits
vmlinuz-3.13.0-39-generic
libtxc-dxtn "Up to date"

I expect something with the intel Haswell Desktop ^^

Thanks in advance. Keep the good Job :)

@Gligli

Can you give me a few screenshots? I've got some idea of what it could be but need to see it. Preferably of all the various ways it can look like (half, stripes, and whatever else you've seen).

Loading savegames makes steam-version crash

Post by patrickgee »

I'm running X3:TC through steam, and every time I try to load a savegame it crashes. It doesn't matter if I try to continue from the main menu, or if I try to load while in game.

What steps should I perform to produce useful information for debugging?

Is it an old savegame? I often read that we shall match the mod(s) used in an old savegame to load it properly. :)

No, all savegames. Including the new ones I make right now..

I DID fiddle around and installed steam's "X3: Terran Conflict Bonus Package"..

I tried uninstalling it using the check box under DLC in the properties of the game in Steam, but this did not help..

I also checked under "Select Mod Package" in the x3tc-launcher, nothing ever showed up in that list..

From the description that steam-package is a collection of scripts.. Maybe it's not supposed to show up in the mod-list? It does not seem impossible that this package might be the root of my problems..

UPDATE:
I'm now able to save and load without crashing to desktop.

Probably had to quit and start the game some more times after I unchecked the install box in steam.

Note:
I still can't load the savegames that were made earlier.. Also earlier the game would crash to desktop if I saved a game and immediately loaded it while still in game...

I think one can assume that that bonus-package installed through steam was the problem.. I'm going to leave it uninstalled for now. If you want me to try to do some debugging, let me know how I can be of any use!

If you have not touch on filesystem or right managments, that sounds strange to me, sorry ^^'
You'll probably need to provide your Linux Distro and hardware configuration for furtherer inquery...

swarm missile trails are invisible

Post by linuxchuck »

First, thanks *so* much for porting this fantastic game! I have been playing X3TC in Linux for a couple of months now, and am hopelessly addicted.

This is purely a cosmetic issue, so I don't expect it to be much of a priority.

Basically, I can't see swarm missiles while they are in-flight.

I didn't even know this was a glitch until I fired the game up on a Windows box for the first time a few days ago, and realized that I could actually see my swarm missiles (flail barrage, to be specific) as they spiral off into the distance. Aside from this issue, The game plays fantastic for me!

The missiles themselves can actually be seen the instant they fly past the cockpit windows, but are effectively invisible beyond that point. No tail, no trail, no glow, no nothing.

I currently run the game in windowed mode at 1920x1080 on my primary display.

I've tried toggling every graphics option available in the pre-game GUI (found under "Graphics Settings")

X3TC is installed via Steam.
My install is "vanilla" with the bonus pack installed. Version 3.2c, 2012, Build 21
(As far as I know, this is the latest version available from Steam.)

My config:
Ubuntu 14.04 x64
2x Nvidia GTX 460
Nvidia driver version 331.113

no missile trails

Post by gcc88 »

Hello!
I'm using X3TC on Linux, installed from steam (version 3.2c build 21).
Do not appear tails missiles (including "Flail Barrage Missile") - ie rocket is almost impossible to notice, they do not stand out, only represent a flying rocket models, without the effect of the engines, although if the rocket has no tail, but only texture image simulating flames from the nozzle - everything is in place (eg "Hammer Heavy Torpedo" and "Banshee").
How to fix it?
Thank you!

@gcc88

Try the "temporarily beta" version. Right click on the game in the steam library, click betas, enter "OohVeryShiny", click "check code", select public_beta in the selection box above.
This should give you build 24, and please report if it works:)
