Hopefully, once 2.5 is in public beta, they'll allow an equally long time for us volunteers to test, report issues and, hopefully, have them addressed for re-testing.

Myself, along with many others have spent a LOT of time documenting bugs, steps to re-create & uploading supporting saves for the devs (where a save records the issue) quite often for the public update to be released anyway despite some quite glaring issues.

I think getting a larger group to test each release is a fantastic thing, it exposes the build to a huge variety of hardware and software, drivers etc. and can only make the product better

Anyway, I'd love to see the PB for 2.5 in time for the weekend (it's supposed to be miserable in my part of the UK, so I'll not be out and about so much lol) but if not, that's cool too, cos there's always pancakes...:)

I totally agree with your statement Scoob, but whereas you understand the patch can breaks your saves and your game experience, some people will not read the disclaimer and then rage because of that.
If I remember a DEV have spoken about that before.

I don't think there are some "secret" stuff in the incoming patch but the difficulty to access it right now (Devnet NDA or something) suppose authorized people are aware enough of the risk.
Easy accessibility via steam beta means people not aware of the risk, and will rage even if they have been warned.

I'm gonna hold up CCPs 6 week develpoment model again as an example here because it is working so well for them :

* State goals for the 6 week scrum, gather feedback while developing.
* Week 4 - pubic testing and more feedback. Announce any features planned that will be pushed back to next 6 week scrum as not ready.
* Change/fix according to QA, pubilc test + feedback.
* Week 6 release.
* At all times - do not take into account the tiny minority that take a wild imaginary ride akin to lewis carrol and the rabbit hole, then cry for hours on the forums because it didn't happen the way the mad hatter said it would.

What CCP have achieved with this is happy customers receiving regular content and bug fix releases without the pressure of small features holding back larger projects as stated in roadmaps. ES seem scared that releasing any info will cause panic and confusion if some things are not ready. This is not true except for that small minority which will find some other way to kick up a fuss regardless.

Well if making the password "IBackedUpMySaves" is not warning enough that public beta may be unstable I say let evolution run it's course.

I agree with you 2... Even if the warnings are very well described on the beta forum... even if the passcode to access a beta is very clear... some will do think they haven't been warn....

Anyway, anyhow, always make a copy of your savegames before openning them with new release, even in public access as I do everytime a patch is up and you'll never get trouble...

A before week end release, as to say today, would be great!

But still wait...

It is still beta, so I would not count on it...

In theory it should be possible, but it's not guaranteed in beta testing.

Especially if you are running mods it is possible you get weird behavior (even with mods disabled or removed, because those mods can modify your saved games). So IF you want to load previous saved games it is strongly advisable to do this from an vanilla game (and in an vanilla beta game)!

Also - As told with the beta testing announcements, you have to back-up your original saved games to be safe.

New Feature: New shipyards for small and medium sized ships

next stage should be "drive all the ships". No sense don't give the possibility, they have to "built" the cockpits, and there it is.
