Ok, it first stalled and then crashed but that episode was actually much better than the last one in my eyes - the combat, particularly with the cap ships looked awesome and loved flying through the middle of the ship. So, let's be realistic and know they'll be some post release patches like there were on X3.

Well - that last video showed some real battle...
As far as I can see the Skunk got some real beating here. A few times it was "game over", and only because the ship was flying in god mode the game wasn't finished within a half a minute...
One severe hang here, but they have more than a month to do the last bug hunting. It would not surprise me if people that have ordered the game on DVD (or pre-downloaded) will have to download the latest updates on release day (download images will be patched already at release).
Anyway - looks nice to me. Now I am going to watch again, but this time to listen what Bernd has to say
.
As I am Dutch I can at least partially understand what he is saying - if I am not distracted by the images...

The more I see the more I like, looks like it's going to be great. The drones look really fun too, I hope that there are lots of types. Eg, I hope we can use drones to explore distant places and place jump beacons, things like that.
Questions:-
1. When you look to the side to the info panel, is the game paused?
2. When your flying a drone, what happens to your ship? Can the copilot perform evasive maneuvers or something?
3. In the 3rd vid (i think) Bernd mentions 'defensive' something when talking about drones (cant find it again), whats that about?
4. We still havent seen any aliens! Has bernd mentioned anything about them?
5. Any mention of optimisation? You can see some fairly bad fps hits in the vids and I'm assuming they are on a supercomputer there.
6. The presenter mentions next-gen consoles and bernd looks distressed, what did he ask?
7. Finally, anyone translating these videos?

Yes, Yisha take care of that and you can tell her what to do.Axeface wrote: 2. When your flying a drone, what happens to your ship? Can the copilot perform evasive maneuvers or something?
In second OperationDX video, I think we could see a Split (although he didn't know what the alien wasAxeface wrote:

Co-pilot takes over. The AI is supposed to be good enough for that now.Axeface wrote: 2. When your flying a drone, what happens to your ship? Can the copilot perform evasive maneuvers or something?
Which bit? Maybe the fact that, rather than fly, you can give them instructions to defend you etc. Not sure.Axeface wrote: 3. In the 3rd vid (i think) Bernd mentions 'defensive' something when talking about drones (cant find it again), whats that about?
I think the idea is more get revealed as the plot unfolds. Teladi are confirmed, the "Old Ones" are (ironically enough) new and we saw what looked like a Paranid in one of the station interiors.Axeface wrote: 4. We still havent seen any aliens! Has bernd mentioned anything about them?
Aside from working hard on it, no there hasn't been mention. Notice the system requirements are still being determined. Actually, we don't know what computer they were using. Many reviewers use mid range computers so the experience is more like that of a real user and we don't know the settings it's on - even a upper range computer will stutter on ultra - so we don't know. However, clearly there are some bugs so it's no clear what's frame rate and what's crash & recovery.Axeface wrote: 5. Any mention of optimisation? It was a (rather obvious I thought) jab at Call of Duty, which is pretty heavy on its setpieces that are flashy, but offer little interactivity. XR seems to do the same thing, sacrifice interactivity for pretty scenery.ThommoHawk wrote:I'll wait and see what noimaginationavailable has to say about it and if confirms this to be so, then an apology from me shall be forthcoming.

2. The sticky already said the AI takes over
3. You can launch all drones and set them to defend your ship
4. They have been in the April Fool's screen and numerous others
5. None
6. Wether XR will be on next-gen consoles
7. Probably

It's mentioned to basically be a panic button, the way NPC TS react to attack in the older games. Launch all combat-type drones, sic them at the stuff attacking you, without taking direct control of them.Axeface wrote:3. The presenter essentially asks if, now that the games are fully controller enabled and that the next gen consoles are both relatively powerful and close to PCs in hardware anyway, there are any plans for a release on those consoles. Bernd says there's no plans for that, but doesn't want to rule the option out entirely.Axeface wrote:6. The presenter mentions next-gen consoles and bernd looks distressed, what did he ask?

Interviewer: Welcome back for the last time, Bernd is still with us here. etc
00:30
Interviewer: I guess it's pretty hard, especially as a small dev, to finally say "we're going to cut this out"
Bernd: yes this is a double edged sword. There is ofcourse the danger that one angers his hardcore fans when you do something radically different. But we'll have to face this danger and I actually believe that the people, even tha hardcore fans are going to accept it because there also a lot of cool new features, so they'll have to accept that one feature or another dissapear from the game. It was neccesary..
1:08
Bernd: Ofcourse we can't say that one is fundamentally better then the other. they're very different games. We've even been asked if we're going to make a real X:4 some day. This game wasn't named X:4 for a reason: simply because it isn't. X:4 would be the next "building brick for the big tower ( transliterated. can't come up with a similair english proverd atm
) Perhaps we'll make it some day, but at the moment rebirth is a 1000 times more exciting, and this will keep us busy for the next couple of years. By improving the current game.
Interviewer: (1:40) We're here for the last episode. We've entered a sector with a lot more action. Can you tell us a little about the sector and what is going on in it? I believe it has an interesting story.
Bernd: Yeah this a small battle in the system The Freeze ( or deep freeze, not sure ). The Freeze is the first new solar system that the player will discover after the jumpgates reopened. That is ofcourse a monumental moment for the history of the universe because like we said, they've been closed for decades. And in the middle of battle with the Plutarch Mining Corporation, the gates reopen, or atleast symptoms are showing up of the gates reopening. The player is the first one, on the run for the corporation, to fly into this system, The freeze. A large part of this part of the story, we call it The second chapter, plays in this system.
What makes this place remarkable was that for all the time the gates we're closed, this area was completely cut off. The place doesn't have a homeworld. And there was no self sustaining economy. So the people that live here, are those who, as if in mad max, turned insane in their fight for survival as everyone in their enviroment starved to death. There simply wasn't enough food for way to many people. The system was originally intended to generate power. They where energy traders, whom intended to transport the energy to other sectors, and then where forced to hold in this cut off sector for decades.
So when the player enters he will only find a lot of hostile factions, but eventually finds an ally among them. The player will continue his battle from this new system against the plutarch mining corporation.
3:45 Interviewer
Now we see we have big capital ships as well, not just transport ships, but also real warships. At first view it looks like Battlestar Galactica. Atleast at the.. basic level. ( bernd: battlestar galactica is great!) I can see that you let yourself be inspired. ooh! It's failing! ( bernd: oh, what happened tere? )
< fade out, fade in >
Interviewer: 4:05 well, that can happen when you play a pre release version. One that isn't ready yet, they can crash. We reloaded the game and we're back at the same spot. Let's take a look at the capital again. Let's shoot off this guy first though. And while I do that, Bernd can you tell us if there will be a demo?
Bernd: ( 4:28) no. Definatly not before release. We don't have time to work on a demo right now. After release we would like to do it. It's not so easy to make a demo that does justice to a game like this. We had a demo at gamescon but it was focused on Fight a lot. If we would give a demo out like this, people who don't really know the series yet would be under a complete false impression of the game. at the event we atleast had a video running next to it explaining "here you can see the fight aspect but this game offers much more. For the internet we would like to make a demo that trully shows of everything.
Interviewer: Woah! I think we get shot up pretty bad there. game over! But to our luck ( Bernd: I am healing you! ) We are cheaters ofcourse. We made ourselves immortal. But we flew pretty far away, I wanted.. the big one.. I wanted to go the big one again. While I fly there may I ask.. How about the dynamic elements in the game? Will missions be generated? as in relatively small tasks, you know. Kill so many of them there, take this stuff there. Are there also going to be regions where different conditions count? Like a nebula that causes damage to shields so you need to send more escorts ships or something like that. Or hidden civilised areas that one may find? I'm just comming up with things.
Bernd: There won't be any hidden civilised areas! But there are countless dynamic elements. Like, we name them "regions", that may hold asteroids. or ice crystals. There are also some with gas, gas nebules, that have their own distinct effects. And these change, they can also change during the course of a game. Par example by NPC activites. So if NPC's mine an area then the region will be changed by the NPC actions. And because of things like that, situations may arise that where caused by NPC agents. There are always things in the game that are unforseeable, even for us! It's not like we "design" the way something happens and present it to the player. We just programmed the AI so that, they will act in what in their eyes should be beneficial to themselves. The player will notice this the most when trading. When a NPC trader in the game he will look for himself: "where can I buy goods cheaply? Where can I sell them expensive?" and if for reasons, goods aren't being manufactured or a certain trade route is blocked, then very fun effects can occur in the universe. very dynamic effects can occur then. We didn't plan these events at all. This grants a lot of credibility to the universe.
There is ofcourse the risk that things will go drasticly wrong with such unscripted, unplanned events. What we did was let the game run for a long time while running in a fast forward mode, to test it and see how long can it last? does everything still function after several weeks of playtime? And everytime we see different results. And that makes the game exciting and fun.
8:15 Interviewer: well, I believe that was a great last scene, we got to see a big explosion, and seen the big capital ships in action. Can't get better then that. But you can find out for yourself in the full version, wich will be released november 15th exclusively on PC. You can also play it with a gamepad. Bernd, thanks for everything, but you brought something with you. 3 times the book X3. So if you wanna read up on the worlds, what's going on there, then you can win the book, we're going to give them away. We're going to give them away on gamestars.de and then you can get them. Well, there's nothing left to say but thanks again, and < towards camera > enjoy the game if you want to get X:rebirth. Be well, thanks a lot. Goodbye

Thanks for the replies. Glad that the game isn't paused and drones defensive thing - understood.
I hadn't seen that operationdx video before, but I found it. How did he get his hands on it!?
Yeh I knew about the old shot of the teladi, I was talking more about new info. As for the alien in that operationdx vid I can say without a shadow of a doubt that that isn't a paranid. They are like 8-9 feet tall and very scary. Definately a split without hair (unless they have changed the races).
I'm starting to get really worried that the Boron arn't in. I love the boron, imagine having to put on a suit and swim through their ships, would be amazing.

Sorry Noimageavailable. I misunderstood that ... Don't really know anything about CoD. PPS and you probably won't believe this; but I have thru all this time been mis-reading your forum name. I was not trying to be smart about that, I have only just realized how it is actually spelt ...

Thanks to you two for translation !
Part 4, capital fight. Seems big weapons are firing on small targets (blue projectile, PPC like). Reassuring for my point n°2 in my previous message.
Another question now : I can see huge amount of turret (fine) but only 2 types of weapons (PPC like, and small fast firing). I really hope there are as much weapons type as in X3. I really love questionning for hours to find my favorite guns combination, and even compare stats in an excel chart !
BTW, amazing for eyes. Keep doing !
