Hi there.
I've got a bit of a problem, and I THINK that it's mod-related.
My game keeps crashing back to the desktop after just a few moments of running. Indeed the other day it even did it whilst generating the universe at the start of a New Game.
The error message I'm getting is this:
"(objects\ships\props\extern_m4_dock)"
Any ideas? Do you think it's trying to render a vessel but unable to find a particular file that's called "extern_m4_dock"?
Interesting crash.

You are missing an external M4 dock. Which is odd. Depends on which mods you have installed, but that particular item is attached to a few ships ingame.
Was the mod installed on a clean install of Albion Prelude (remember you can copy the steam install directory and use the standalone exe provided by egosoft to have as many installs as needed, though steam achievements won't be available standalone or modded either way

Yeah, there are a few false patches in there, but they were installed on a clean install - Terran Conflict as it happens.
I'm running X-Tended, but also the 'A New Dawn' additional ship mods, which Anubitus compiled by creating unified catalogue 'types' files to manage them all.
The components are:
XTended
The Shawn Cockpit mod(that wouldn't have contained it)
Killjaeden's Ship expansion
Cadius' Xtra ship pack
A New Dawn
So you think one of those mods uses that file, but for some reason it's missing, hmm?

X-Tended as in the XTC mod or another one?
Nearly all those mods would have a ship with an external M4 dock with the exception of the cockpit mod.
TBH I would have thought that combining that many different TShips files would indeed end in tragedy
Try a clean install with each mod separately, and see if you get the error still. If you don't then it's more than likely the combining process that's causing the problem.

it wont matter if all of the mods contain a external M4 dock file, the last one should be used by the game.. but as far as i know none of the mods i combine have this file in it.. i think the file you speak about is part of the vanilla game, ofc ships that are being added by these combined mods can contain this dock, but that shouldnt break the game.. i might be mistaking ofc..TrixX wrote:X-Tended as in the XTC mod or another one?

combining the TShips files wont end in tragedy if you do it correcly.. it actually works pretty good..
anyway, i will look into this..

Thanks Anubitus, I'm just trying to work out the most likely scenario to cause a default asset to think it's not there or assigned incorrectly. It might even be the components file not TShips thinking more about it, but I've got my head in my work atm

Thanks for your input, guys.
Appreciate you trying to help here.
So, Anubitus and TrixX, you're saying that this missing file is a default one that comes with the game, and NOT with a mod... and yet it's possible that the TComponents file might be responsible for the game failing to recognise it, yes?
There IS a TComponents file contained within A New Dawn (19.cat) but how can I ascertain if the fault lies there?
NightTragE, I get what you're saying and it's to be expected that when mods get written there are bugs to iron out. Now if this is a common bug like you say, presumably it's been reported before.
I'll check in with the thread for this mod anyway, as it seems that if the bug is part of the mod, then perhaps I can play my part in 'Beta testing' as it were, to help iron it out... for the benefit of everybody who might wish to play it.

If there is an incorrect reference in/to the Components file then it can cause issues.
Sorry if I can't look into this much further as I'm kinda busy with other things at the moment, but it is one possibility. Been a while since I had an issue like that
