Very low FPS

To begin with the game (X3AP) ran flawlessly. I have been playing maybe 100 hours and put up advanced satellites in most sectors a long, long time before with no slow down. I built 3 complexes, 1 more recently. I found recently that my game slowed right down, in SETA it reads as low as 4FPS in all sectors, regardless of how little is there. I put all the gfx settings to lowest and AA and such turned off and it still does the same so can be ruled out.


I am playing vanilla with the bonus package. Have used no cheats but have done a hell of a lot of missions earlier on in the game. There are a massive amount of ships in 2 sectors, Ocean of Fantasy and Grand Ex. Also quite a few in PTNI and Seizwell (AI). I have attached a screen to give the scale, look at the scroll bar to see how many more there are. Could this be the issue?

What I have done so far to try and solve the issue:

- I previously had FDshow disabled but have actually uninstalled it totally, as well as Haali, cyberlink and other similar stuff that I don't use anyhow.

- Installed the newest Realtek drivers (was told that mine were out of date)

- Cleaned case of dust build up to rule out over-heating

- Verified the game content in steam for both TC and x3AP. It came up clean for TC and said there was 1 file that was missing that needed to be downloaded (made no difference to slow down).

Haali CODECS are known to cause problems.

Sounds prospectively like the "Billion Barracuda Bug". There's a topic a few posts down covering the issue (strangely unable to link the post for you when typing this on my phone).

The main gist is that Egosoft have identified the issue and are working out how to remove the offending ships.

I removed Haali in control panel and if it were making problems, it wouldn't wait 100 hours to do so. I would have consistently had problems throughout the game surely?!

So if it is the Barracuda bug (99% sure as the amount of ships are obscene) then what you are saying is there is no resolution as of yet? :(

I agree with your first statement, excepting that you may have installed haali more recently.

Anyway, Alan's latest update on the bug says they are still looking at it.

@ bobt: Probably no need - we know the billion Barracuda (or other fighter) slow-down bug exists in the form shown in the OP's screenshots and that Egosoft currently have a dev working on it. I don't think the OP wants to test out your problem area as well!
