My system is nowhere near low end and it's still bogs it down.
What spec is it? What OS are you running? Do you have the latest drivers?
980X with 3 GTX 480's in SLI. Windows 7 Ultimate 6-bit and all the drivers are updated.

Impressive spec, but it is well known that even on high-end systems X3TC runs into issues when memory usage is high (gets worse the older the game is), are you sure you are not falling foul of that? (straw that broke the camel's back)[/OT]

With 12Gb of RAM I highly doubt that is the problem, but I have also witnessed lag early in the game as well as late. Memory activity is low. The Ballistic Tracers don't show any increase of memory IO activity.

It does not matter if you have 256GB of RAM, X3:TC is still limited to the 32-bit address space (4GB minus memory mapped hardware) but the point was not that bullets increase memory usage, it was more to do with combined effect of performance degredation (the straw that broke the camels back). Vanilla PBEs and Kyons (amongst others) are known to have a detrimental effect on performance (not sure which issues are still present in CMOD)... unless you are saying that only IonD fire was occuring at the time of the noted slow down it would be difficult to pin the blame specifically on IonD.

Only IonD's cause slowdowns for me. If any other beam weapon is in play, then I'm fine.

I think you'll need to do the old "go to an abandoned sector, send your ship out of sector, save, remove CMOD, load X3TC, save, add CMOD, load X3TC" thing to stop the crashing.

(I'll get back to you about this in a few hours if no one else does. I've just started a new game with a Logich, but I don't have time to play it right now.)

Just guessing that you have another mod that conflicts with CMOD, mrlamppost. Probably something that also changes TLasers, but that's just a straight guess on my end... What order are your cat/dat pairs... after 13? What do you load at 14, 15, 16... etc? Any other mods/scripts besides cat/dat pairs?

Actually it could be the way the IonD works causing it. As it's not a fan of multiple shots ingame, so 2 or more fired simultaneously could have a negative effect on the game at the moment, hence Paul's idea to remove the zigzag tag and re-purpose it.

BTW with your system (nice one btw :) ) just a couple of things to remember. X3: TC is a single threaded game so higher single core clock speed is more important than multi-core (actually it uses a second thread for audio, but that's irrelevant). Second it doesn't support Multi-GPU so only 1 of the 480's is doing any work ;)
As Roger mentioned the game is also 32bit limited so it can't address more than the theoretical 4GB (though usually gets a bit hung up after 3.5-3.8GB) and most games released still suffer that. Soon though textures are jumping to 64bit and that should release the large RAM benefits of x64 computing :)

If you are running with AWRM then R5 of the patch needs tweaking for 4.9 else you will get a crash with most beams. Alternatively, you could have CMOD 4.8 installed as well but at a lower number than 4.9.

The only way the FBC could cause a crash is if you're using a mod with cmod compatible tbullets that hasn't been updated for the most recent release. The FBC will still be looking for the old model which is no longer in the cmod.

Whichever mod it is will need its tbullets updating for the new beam models.

If you're not using any other mods, then try changing sectors before you fire to ensure the new models get loaded correctly.

okay, im guessing that it is AWRM
my game is very heavily modded, but cmod is at the end of the cat/dat numbers.

Rather than the 4.8 shinanagons... try this R6 patch for AWRM v0.26.
