[MOD] Simple sidebar remover

Post by Gotcha! »

Hello,

I have been editing the file interface_template_blackpearl_diff.dds, to cut the sidebar out, but I have no clue in what format I should save this file. And there are many formats.
Tried some, but the game doesn't recognize them.

Does anyone know?
I've tried searching the forums, and read that the program DXTbmp could show a dds' format, but it doesn't.

Any help is highly appreciated. :)

Edit: I've figured it out.
If anyone else is interested in removing his/her sidebar in a simple manner, you can download two versions here:

Normal
Transparent

Image: Click!

To install:

1. Create a folder called "dds" inside your X3 Terran Conflict folder.
2. Extract the file "interface_template_blackpearl_diff" to this folder from the .rar file of your choice.
3. That's it!

I assume your using photoshop?

Try saving it as .dds using format DXT3, Or DXT1... Both should work

No go, I am afraid.
I am using Photoshop with nVidia's plugin, and I've tried DXTbmp as well.
In-game everything related to this picture is just gone, perhaps 100% transparent. :?

I've tried reapplying the alpha channel that I exported from the original .dds file, but no change.

It does. Open the texture and you can see the Texturetype in the text of the Windows-frame (on the left side, on the right side is the red cross, minimize, etc)

The only thing it says there is 32 bit, which isn't helpful at all. I can save the picture in a lot of different types, including 32 bit ones.

/rant at whoever came up with this dds crap:
Why allow a .dds type picture be saved in a zillion possible ways? Gawd, when does the hurting stop. I am getting too old for this.

Edit: Well, maybe someone wouldn't mind helping me out by saving this .bmp picture in the right .dds format for me. :?

I'd be very grateful. *kneels down and grovels* :)

Helloes.
I tried another program I found, but to no avail.
I'd really appreciate some help with this. :?
Can anyone advise on what program to use to edit .dds files and save them in a format that X3 understands?

nVidia's photoshop plugin gives too many options of which the 32bit ones don't seem to work, and DXTbmp is pretty much worthless. Another program called DDS Converter isn't helpful as well.

Well, I finally found a tool that did show the type of dds. After that it was easy.
Also, I needed to remove the option of creating mipmaps, whatever those are, or else it wouldn't work.

But I did it! :D

Did you use the texture tools 2? If not, what did you use.

(Also, you were looking for 8.8.8.8 ARGB)

And, yes, I was looking for ARGB8888.
