*modified* WHY!!!!!!

Post by Dathaniel »

Alright well I use the bonus package from time to time however I keep specific saves for vanilla and for modding. I did not save over my vanilla or even open it while any scripts or mod were active yet my stats still read *modified*

I noticed that the bonus package no longer requires the script editor to be enabled in order for it to work when before this was the case. Could this be the cause. Anyone else having the same problem??? Feedback please this is quite frustrating

As officially 'signed' content, the Bonus Packs, all the way from X2 to present, have never required the Script Editor to be enabled. In fact, enabling the script editor by itself causes games to be modified.

Have you by some chance not upgraded the Bonus Pack to the latest version? In the first release, one of the CAG/CLS functions, automatic naming, caused the modified tag. It was fixed in the latest version.

Don't worry, my games have told me I'm modified from the initial installation. The only thing it means is that you don't get ranked on the website statistics. It's no big deal.

If you haven't used the naming function, and your game isn't listed as 'modified', then you won't have the problem. And if you've updated to the latest bonus pack, you shouldn't have a problem anyway.

You can unbunch your panties now. :P

The only way that you can tell your game is modified is by checking your personal stats in game and below all of your kills you should see something like ***modified*** if you don't see that then you are fine

AND THE BONUS PACK DOESN'T MODIFY YOUR GAME!!!

The reason I am shouting that is for some reason people still don't get that. Even though in the past 24 hours I have seen other people tell YOU just that mateusbuffone@click21.com. Jezz.

Here you go. Modified.

It's not only a program, it add a mod and a script to "manage" other scripts.

edit: btw using your email as a nickname, isn't really a good idea on a public forum (or anywhere else).

Perhaps you should ask a moderator or administrator to help you change your screen name?

If you have been playing a long time the vanilla game used to (and maybe still does) get marked as *modified* even if you never touched a script or the script editor or changed your pilot name, etc.

My vanilla game was marked modified too long before I ever thought of straying to the scripted and moded path.

There are a bunch of threads saying its certain virus scanners that cause the problem or claim its some other reason but it all sounds like excuses. If you don't modify your game it should not get marked as modified. I have not seen my virus scanner screw up any other game or program especially since its always set to manual scanning only .. no in memory or real time scanning ever.

Its probably best to ignore it and keep playing unless you have a save from before it was marked as modified.

The game is much more fun and fulfilling with certain scripts and mods anyway.

Modified does NOT equal cheated. There are many, many mods and scripts that add excellent content to the game, and not a few that make the game much harder. So equating modified with cheating is doing all those dedicated scripters/modders, not to mention yourself, a real disservice.

I had the same problem before, If you uploaded mods to your game and now play vanilla, you will sometimes get the "modified" tag. Nothing to worry about just go back to an earlier save, unless you already overwritten them all.

A way to know if your game is "modified", is to check the command console, and make sure the word "custom" is not there. If you see it, reload your game to the earliest save, that does not have the tag. You will also see it when you issue orders to any of your other ships.

You can still play Modified and Vanilla games, just keep an eye out for the tag.

Hope it helps a little bit. :)

That and the game has no end goal, or win condition, or many rules.

So it's kinda hard to cheat in a game like that.

Something I just noticed. If the word *modified* is in blue, then it's not actually calling it modified. If it's yellow, then it is.

You can cheat, you just need to make up rules to break.

Or click your heels together three times... ;)

More like cheating doesn't really exist for this game.
Also anyone can cheat whatever game he wants, as long as no one suffers from it, like in MMOS or the likes.

Adding cockpits did it for my game, and while I hate the fact I cant unlock achievements in steam with it, no way in heck am I going back to no cocpits and dont feel like finding a permament setting because this way I can try others if need be.

Steam achievements are there to give you goals and let others see that you have achieved them.

Apart from other issues concerning Steam(plenty on that elsewhere), I don't see the point of it,unless you want "bragging rights".

What's wrong with just setting your own goals and telling us how you achieved them,if they are worth bragging about?
