Would be great to see one if the prices were balanced. Unfortuately (according to x3tc.ru) the price of a khaak destroyer is a mere 12.4 million and gamma kyons just 117k.

So uh yeh, I'll enter my Khaak fleet:

Khaak destroyer
5x2GJ shield
18x Gamma Kyon Emitter

250,000,000/18,233,167 = 13 khaak destroyers with 13mil left over.

Bring it on

3 Titans with PPCs and IBLs carrying lots of Wasps would be my answer. For Destroyers you don't even need full armament. Maybe even a few fighters for the colour would be in.

I think it should be a budget on each class
30mil for M3/4/5
100mil M1/2
60mil M7/8
30mil M6

I reckon the 250 million limit we have currently is ideal.

It allows plenty of choice about how the fleet is composed but still requires difficult compromises to be made, particularly if you want to field full-sized capital ships (I only managed to bring my fleet under the limit by restricting my fighters to M5s only - would have loved to include some M3s but they were too expensive if I wanted to keep an Akuma in the fleet).

Main thing that is needed IMO is a limit on the total number of ships (& maybe a requirement to have at least 1 capital class flagship) in order to discourage fighter spam fleets. Think maximum practical fleet size needs to be tested prior to the next XFF to determine what size fleets the game can cope with before ships start going idle, although in a sense XFF1 will do much of this testing anyway, due to the wide disparity in fleet sizes & composition - by the end of the XXF1 it should be readily apparent what size fleets are viable & which fleets stretch the system too far.

I don't think your fleet looks copied in any aspect. I'm surprised of the outfit of a Tokyo. Those M/AMLs are MEAN. :D But only 4GJ shields on your M2? Well, it's your funeral :P
Er... oops

Lemme just fix that:

+3 2gj shields for the Phoenix
-1 nova
+1 scorpion
+5 wasps on novas
+11 tempests on phoenix.

8,624 left :)

Eh, thought so. ;)

edit:

Ooh, only 1 day left before the fleets are final - it's getting exciting. There might be slight changes in armament but my fleet is mostly final. Beware of the destructive power of a single container of Teladianium in a Deimos!

Forget about XFF II for a while, please. This is about XFF I and there'll be enough time to figure out a better set of rules for any other tournament. :)

New suggestion:

Ok, set budget but limits on numbers per ship class
250mil
and up to:
1 M1
2 M2
4 M7
10 M6
10 M8
50 M3
60 M4
65 M5
10 TM
No TS/TP

Should limit fighter/TP-spams
Looks fair to me.
If anything, increase the price limit so theres more capital ships for better fights.

No more than 750 total missles.
N-S, go take a walk.

Maybe not.
With this, apart from changing the rules on fighters and hanger-bays, TJ and Mutiny's rules have pretty much stuck.
Xff2 should have something different to offer or else its just gonna be XFF1.2 or something..

Plus, people reading this thread but not joining now may find they like the sound of whats being discussed for XFF2 and will join in with that.

Edit:
Tenlar, your map-
I have an idea to make it a bit brighter.
Replace the blue planet currently in it to Uranus.
Its big, bright and the rings give a nice background.

Re: Uranus, actually, that's a fantastic idea. :D I'll update it after I finish my homework, or potentially tomorrow.

The planet is Uranus Prime is actually just a part of the sector's starfield - not a physical object. If we used THAT Uranus, it would cut in-sector load even more, though the battle would take place in that bluish mist.

I have to say, wait until at least one of the battles involving a large number of ships has been done, before ruling it out for the next competition!

I think as much freedom should be left in as is reasonably possible. Yeah, if the hosts computer is not capable of running battles with that many ships/missiles/whatever, then something will obviously have to be done. But at the moment, it is a completely legitimate (and interesting!) tactic, so why are people ruling it out (or trying to) before we know if it's actually causing issues?

All this is IMO, of course :)

So that would be the price to pay for a more illuminated sector?
Bluish mist... IIRC, its not as dense as say, atreus' clouds' green mist so i wouldnt complain.

Indeed, and the render range for that sector background is pretty huge - so nothing will be lost to sight within the ranges we'll be dealing with. :)

Fleets finalized in two days! Pretty exciting. :D

Easy solution to reduce fighterspam is the following rule (assuming the other rules remain un-replaced) - for every 25 fighters, you must have at least one M7/M2/M1 in your fleet. (in addition to the docking points etc.)

Also, I'd disagree in XFF2 with 50 or less million credit limit, because that wouldn't get a wing, not to mention a fleet. And it'd get a lot less options for inventive set-ups. Sticking to one race is OK, however. (As would be the banning of Springblossoms, Solanos and Plasma Burst Generators, maybe the whole TM class too)

Also, nice to see TJ is alive :D

You will never get rid of Zerg fleets. No matter what budget restraints you supply, be it cash/number of ships/number of pilots/hangar space/whatever there will always be a "cheapest and best" option.

You're problem isn't the limitations in place, it's lack of imagination and a desire to 'win'.

If my edited post on the first page doesn't fit the bill... then no lazors for me. Not sure if the rules were changed in the many pages between it and this one.

holy moly I just saw the teaser vid with Emperorjons Springblossom fleet versus my very first grossly over-budget fleet. Them Split warships didn't stand a chance! I know I'm a bit late but hey what ever

I hope the Teladi Super Shrike Strike Squad isn't that same fleet as in the teaser... I did make a new one thats legal...

Kudos to Emperorjon BTW on the nice lil slaughter there... I hope I don't draw him too soon either way!

I'm excited to see how all the fleets place! If we got enough interest we could make this a regular thing and get everybody involved! I mean there could be weight classes like Lightweight Fleets that are limited in ship size and Heavyweight Fleets which require a certain amount of capital ships.

Lightweight Division Example...
The Lightweight Division is based on the management of M5 to M3+ class ships as well as the M6 class corvettes. Players would basically be limited to the M6 and below.

Middleweights would be allowed to use Frigates and lower but must have room in their budget for at least one frigate class ship.

Heavyweights would have to have at least one M2, or M1...

All the weightclasses could be subject to different "Salary Caps" to control fleet sizes and there could be championships and rankings...

In the future a spot on TSN 8....

If Fleet 32 is still not found I'll give it a try with quantity, not quality.
