Alex, I see that you're the winner of the "X3 Sektorquest". What might this be?
It was a game in the german X-Universe back when X3: Reunion was popular where the participants had been given a screenshot or pieces of a screenshot and one had to find out in which sector the screenshot had been taken. There were over 100 rounds and, although I entered the game for the first time in round 57 or something and all the others had had already total scores of 300+ points, I managed to catch up and win it with a slight advantage of some 20 points. :D I'd been loving it!

Hmm Xvid you say?

Any chance of a step by step process on how to encode/convert using Xvid? (I'm new to this whole video encoding thing).


And I'll try to put in commentary if I get the time.

BooHoo :tuichdoch: the filedropper link leads not to the file and mediafire stopped during DL and won't let me try agaaaiiiinnnnn *sniff*

@technojerk:

Get Virtualdub, get Xvid, open your AVI in VD (do some editing if you like), define the codecs for sound (e.g. Lame) and video (i.e. Xvid or DivX - WMV is only supported via plugin), do some adjustments on the codecs and save back to AVI.

Looks good, but I might name the fleets as well (if they have names) and link back to their ship lists.

You might want to mention what ships the victor had remaining, and if you're feeling especially typish, perhaps a couple words on what appeared to be effective and what didn't.

Also - for people who are interested in DLing your save games, you might want to make a few things clear on the main page -

1) the battles are vanilla.
2) you'll need my battlefield map for them to play.
3) you MIGHT not get the same victory result that TJ does. :wink:

Finally. For publicity purposes, when the real battles get going you might want to post the upcoming battle in the thread title: something like X Fleet Fest: quarterfinals - EmperorJon vs. Deadbeat_Spinn 5/6/10
Thanks for the suggestions. I have one question though. How are the battles vanilla?! It's in a custom universe, with the scripteditor enabled with a 3rd party script running.

Thanks, I'll try that. And I've replaced the filedropper link with a 4shared one :)

Ok, point... but the neither the ships, weapons, or attack scripts have been modified. :P That is to say, the ONLY modifications made are the map and cyberfuzzie's script. You know, not VANILLA vanilla, but absolutely no chocolate or raspberries...

What about if you stop cutting your internet connection while you're downloading things?
Honestly, I have no problems, neither with the FF standard DL-Manager nor Free DL-Manager nor IE (at least on Mediafire, Filedropper is "empty")

The current one seems fine, but after all matches it might get long and hard to read. My suggestion is to condense it a bit:

First round

Finally, I tried the xff.spawnfleets script. Could it add a triplex scanner and a salvage insurance too to playership? Anyhoo it seems that fight command software is not required, as ships will attack correctly and fire turrets. Scanners on the other hand are. Spawning 5 falcon haulers on both sides (200MJ shield, 9xPAC, nothing else), ships started wandering around and only 2 from either side saw each other. The other three went to have a picnic or something.

hrm, might have to rethink some things then, goodbye overabundance of missiles, hello triplex scanners (I'll edit my original post with the changes latter tonight.)

Have updated The Reaver fleet by editing my original post (so the page 1 link should still be valid).

Regarding the layout for results, I suggest the first line should be:
Fleet name 1 vs. Fleet name 2
Then during the battle set the monitoring ship to recognise 1 of the fleets as enemy - that way the hud display during the battle will conform to the respective fleet colours used for the results.

Sorry about the lax reply time, I was busy with some extra stuff. Hopefully my fleet will meet the standards of XVFF regulations this time! lol

EDIT: Whoops sorry about the Hammerheads! lol I replaced them with extra Thunderbolt Missiles and a couple Firestorms and was very conservative with my estimates so the new numbers should stack up better. BTW that link was the page I always use... for everything lol

I'm afraid you can't buy hammerhead missiles... There's firestorm torpedoes though if you want something similar. This page lists prices for everything needed in the Fleet Fest, and I'm pretty sure the ships are priced with no shields.

hahaha Max Sheilds in all vessels... already accounted for in the prices... lol I'll ad that so no one is confused... I did add the price for the Shields ... however I did not subtract the cost of the shield that comes with the Shrikes... so fudge a lil for the other eleven 200 Mj Shields.... unless the S variety Falcon H comes with a 2ooMj... Oh well I edited it again

Ashkrowe, I think your calculations are off again. Not counting shields/weapons etc. your fleet is 150M.

I don't think you have 100M of weapons there.

whoops... sorry guys... trying to do two things at once ain't working for me lol

I kinda figured max shields would go without saying but I suppose one could argue that equiping lower shields would give more cargo space.

I overestimated everything when I got nearer to the end.

Anyways fixed in the edit...
