Checking Pirate / Yaki Rep

Post by Smyde »

At the start of my game I took out any Pirate/Yaki I could find to get up my rep or to get a ship to sell. I then stopped to try and keep my rep with them from getting to bad for later in the game (so I can buy stuff from them like IBL's). As of now most (but not all) pirates are blue to me and Yaki outside of their systems are generally blue along with their stations (although they won't let me land).

Is there anyway to tell what my rep is with them so I can see how much more making up I have to do?

Not without turning on the Script Editor and having your game marked *modified*.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

If you have the script editor running, how do you go about getting both of these reputation show up?

You can check the pirate/yaki rep and not getting "modified" by just not saving the game. How to do it?

1) Save your game
2) Activate the script editor
3) Activate the extended information in the editor main menu (not sure about the exact name of the option)
4) Open the info screen of any pirate/yaki ship and go to the bottom. You will see the notoriety in points with all races.
5) Reload your saved game

Yeah, that's how I do it. In case anyone is wondering, the appropriate notoriety value is the one with the player's name on it (somewhat obvious, but it might confuse some people). Also, you can check reputation on Pirate and Yaki stations, not just ships.

I don't consider this cheating or an exploit, since I think Pirate and Yaki rep should be shown on the stats screen anyway.

ok,so this is the first time for a long time that I have decided to open the editor.
Thanks to above info I have assessed that my pirate rank in my game is 1000000 1.

What does this tell me?
What figures am I looking for to get very little trouble from pirates and get into the Dukes favor again?

I am sure I read it somewhere, but only found this thread in my search.

I don't think this number is the one you want. When you read the extended info on a ship or station belonging to the Race (including Pirates and Yaki) you want to check, the value you're looking for is the one with your player name on it. That number is not likely to be a even number like 1 million. Also, 1 million is the absolute highest rank that is possible.

Look at this screenshot of the extended info on a Pirate ship.

My rank with the Pirates is on the line that starts with "Erin Iovis", not the one that starts with "Pirates".

If that number is your actual pirate rank, then they worship you and you should have very little trouble from them. But I suspect that you're actually looking at the reputation that the ship or station in question has with the Pirates, which is maxxed out since they belong to that race themselves.

As for the "1" following the reputation number, it means "Friendly". 0 means Neutral, and -1 means they hate you. If I remember correctly, Yaki have a -1 for every other race, with a negative 1 million rep value. I believe that a race relations status of -1 and negative rep value is what determines which races earn rank rep when destroyed in a sector belonging to the race in question. In other words, the Split should have a -1 and a fairly high negative value with the Boron since they reward you for destroying Boron ships.

By the way, I have managed to get hired and stay hired by Duke's even though my Pirate rep is horrible (I'm a few hundred thousand points in the negative with them). I have gotten 2 or 3 promotions, and I should be getting my first reward ship with them. Good Pirate rep is not a prerequisite for working for Duke's Buccaneers, although their ships may still be hostile to you.

Yes,you were right.I was looking at the station rep.

My rep is 3 0

So my rep score is 3 positive,0 neutral ?

My guess is I still have a long way to go ?

Thanks for explaining this.

Yes, 3 is still in neutral, I think you become friends at 10 (just a couple of missions will suffice I think)

Anyways, although it may be true what Ecthelion says about Dukes, once their HQ is red there's only two ways to make it blue:
- Hack it with a hacking mission
- Destoy it and wait for it to respawn blue , and for that you have to be friends with pirates.

I took the first option, since it was the only one available to me. The only way I've gotten my pirate rep to go up at all was by selling and buying a lot of wares from a Pirate Base, and even then it only went up by one point (and I haven't been able to reproduce it after doing it one time). Doing missions for them doesn't change my rep, nor does destroying race ships in pirate sectors.

Anyway, it's nice that there was still a way for me to work for Duke's, since my pirate reputation doesn't appear to be fixable. Whenever I return to Duke's Haven to take a new mission, I fly my Springblossom to get the dozens of hostile ships in the sector. Even if destroying the hostile ships wouldn't hurt my standing with Duke's (which is highly unlikely), they would probably respawn hostile anyway.

I started the game on the original Steam version - which I believe was 1.2.1 - using the Terran Defender start (I think that's the one... it was the standard Terran start). I have continued from that original start ever since.

However, I didn't discover Duke's Haven until 1.4 or 2.0, and didn't start working for Duke's Buccaneers until 2.1.

Why, what difference does it make?

Thanks for the help!

FYI, since it took me an hour or so to figure out how to open up the script editor, I thought I'd point to Cycrow's post on the script editor...

1. enter the menu to change your pilot's name
2. type Thereshallbewings (note the capital T) and press enter
3. the menu will close, your player name will NOT have been changed, and a confirmation beep will sound on correct activation
4. you will now find the "Script Editor" menu item in the command console

Once the script editor window is open, the name of the "extended information" option is "Script Debugging: Additional Information"
