You have a high-end GeForce card, yet you run NO AA or AF?

Missed that... why didn't he just write in the overridden values in the appropriate place in the output?

Last time I tried, overriding with driver settings didn't even work for me, but of course I'm ATI and that was who knows how many driver revs ago...

X3:TC Demo benches for all 3 current Windows flavors

THX Carlo-SEARCH doofus here

1st off, a hedge of sorts. I do not have access to XP64 so that version was not tested.

System specs as follows :
Coolermaster Cosmos Case, Thermaltake Toughpower 850 Modular
XfX 780i SLI MB w/P08 BIOS, Core2 E8500@3.8 w/PowerMgmt enable
4Go OCZ PC2 6400 SLI EPP, 2X 500Gb WD HD in 5 logical drives
2X eVga GTX 280 SC's in SLI, Realtek HD Audio
1X LG HDDVD/Blu-Ray and 1X Phillips DVDRW

Windows installs were performed fresh on the first physical hard drive which contains all three OS partitions. Since I had new TAGES drivers for Vista and Seven I installed the demo to my H drive under WinXP.
Windows installs were all updated through MS with the exception of mainboard and graphics drivers which were acquired from Nvidia, also all OS's had the latest DirectX applied before graphics driver install.

The Software configuration was s follows:
Windows XP Pro SP3
Windows Ultimate 64SP1
Windows 7 64RC1
Nvidia Forceware Drivers 185.85 for all Os's
Nvidia Mainboard Drivers 15.25
Realtek audio drivers version 2.23

After updating and installing all necessary patches and drivers system restore was disabled for all drives and network was shut down at the hardware level. I used 4XAA and 8XAF as that is what I use during the actual gameplay, version notwithstanding. The only install of any game on this system is to a manual backup of my Steam-install which I use under all my OS's for benchmarking and comparison and one install of Retail X3:TC under Vista for playing with mods.

The results were a bit enlightening to me as very seldom are you able to get the same version drivers for a number of OS's like this, I have never had it happen before. Also I would like to give a word or two about framerate and image quality after each result to give you a better idea of how the actually "present" side by side.

XP First:
--------------------------
X3 - Terran Conflict
--------------------------
Game Version: 1.2.0.0

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090206-1234)
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Graphics Card Info: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 [1024 MB] Driver: 6.14.0011.8250
CPU Info: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs)
Usable System Memory: 2558 MB

Video Settings During Benchmark:
Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080 * [32], fullscreen
Using Shader Profile: 3.0
Antialias Mode: 4x
Anisotropic Mode: 8x

Graphics & Shader Settings:
Texture Quality: high
Shader Quality: high
High Quality Bumpmaps: enabled
Environment Mapping: enabled
Glow Filter: enabled
Ship Color Variations: enabled
More Dynamic Lights: enabled
Used Vertexsize: 40 bytes

Framerates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene "Trade" 41.2 average fps 15.0 minimum fps 97.0 maximum fps
Scene "Fight" 95.7 average fps 34.0 minimum fps 238.0 maximum fps
Scene "Build" 122.2 average fps 70.0 minimum fps 190.0 maximum fps
Scene "Think" 56.0 average fps 29.0 minimum fps 105.0 maximum fps

Overall average framerate: 78.8 fps

The opening sequence displayed micro-stutters far in excess of the other two versions, still very playable and from actually playing the full version patched I can say that these are a peculiarity to the version of the DEMO and not really reflective of the current game state. Also, my nvidia drivers failed to enhance the in-game settings for AA as far as I could tell, but I may have forgot to select it in the CP.

Next up Vista64 SP1:

-------------------------
X3 - Terran Conflict
--------------------------
Game Version: 1.2.0.0

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.090302-1506)
DirectX Version: DirectX 10
Graphics Card Info: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 [2799 MB] Driver: 8.15.0011.8585
CPU Info: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.8GHz
Usable System Memory: 4094 MB

Video Settings During Benchmark:
Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080 * [32], fullscreen
Using Shader Profile: 3.0
Antialias Mode: 4x
Anisotropic Mode: 8x

Graphics & Shader Settings:
Texture Quality: high
Shader Quality: high
High Quality Bumpmaps: enabled
Environment Mapping: enabled
Glow Filter: enabled
Ship Color Variations: enabled
More Dynamic Lights: enabled
Used Vertexsize: 40 bytes

Framerates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene "Trade" 47.1 average fps 17.0 minimum fps 107.0 maximum fps
Scene "Fight" 101.1 average fps 39.0 minimum fps 232.0 maximum fps
Scene "Build" 133.0 average fps 80.0 minimum fps 213.0 maximum fps
Scene "Think" 64.2 average fps 34.0 minimum fps 120.0 maximum fps

Overall average framerate: 86.3 fps

This one got the highest FPS, but still evidenced the aforementioned stutter. Image quality was very good with Nvidia drivers enhancing the Application setting to Superscalar AA. This is my main X Universe OS for a while now and it shows why.

Now for the latest, Windows 7:

--------------------------
X3 - Terran Conflict
--------------------------
Game Version: 1.2.0.0

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7100) (7100.winmain_win7rc.090421-1700)
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Graphics Card Info: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 [2799 MB] Driver: 8.15.0011.8585
CPU Info: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.8GHz
Usable System Memory: 4096 MB

Video Settings During Benchmark:
Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080 * [32], fullscreen
Using Shader Profile: 3.0
Antialias Mode: 4x
Anisotropic Mode: 8x

Graphics & Shader Settings:
Texture Quality: high
Shader Quality: high
High Quality Bumpmaps: enabled
Environment Mapping: enabled
Glow Filter: enabled
Ship Color Variations: enabled
More Dynamic Lights: enabled
Used Vertexsize: 40 bytes

Framerates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene "Trade" 52.7 average fps 20.0 minimum fps 118.0 maximum fps
Scene "Fight" 113.8 average fps 44.0 minimum fps 269.0 maximum fps
Scene "Build" 95.6 average fps 60.0 minimum fps 125.0 maximum fps
Scene "Think" 52.8 average fps 35.0 minimum fps 93.0 maximum fps

Overall average framerate: 78.7 fps

The slowest OS on paper, this one shows why it's important to do "subjective" testing. The aforementioned micro-stutters were least evident with this OS giving it a much smoother feel. The music actually plays during the last two sequences giving me hope of a fix soon, but as I am perfectly content to use the BSG ships on an install of 2.0 TC Steam I'm finding myself just playing Bear McCreary through WMP12 and enjoying it for the time being.

Hopefully this post hasn't bored everyone to death, but as during my trolling here I've yet to see a straight up shootout (I'm probably wrong) using all the same revision drivers on all freshly installed OS's I'll go ahead and post anywho.

Also, I would be VERY interested to hear of anyone who has done this with an ATI crossfire setup as I'm trying to wean my oldest off of HL2 and Oblivion and maybe some eye candy would convince her that it really is "just like Oblivion only bigger and in Space"!!

X3:TC is nothing like oblivion. For one thing there are no horses, or swords.

Plus there is a thread somewhere for people to post their X3 benchmarks. Don't know where though. You might enjoy reading it.

Thx, mods just moved for me. Probably 20 pages back...I should have used "search"...doh moment!

And who says it isn't like a horse? I'll agree the axis's are a bit different and I don't suppose they let ya mount gamma hepts to it but w/ FO3 the possibility theoretically exists. LOL

Might be in part down to the 'loading blip' during that scene which gives a low FPS while there's HDD activity...guess it didn't have all it needed already loaded for that scene, who knows.
I completely agree, there is quite obviously something odd going on there and you can see it in so many benchmark examples. Whatever it is it must surely be a strong contender for the wide spread performance glitches which cannot wholely be attributed to codec issues. I hope Egosoft attempt to debug it back to the root cause in their much appreciated efforts to increase performance.

Darn people with their SLI and 4870X2s outdoing me :(
The ~3.6ghz thing is wrong. I have the gigabyte 'perma turbo' multiplier for the i7 920, so I am actually running at 3.8 ghz.

I wonder if having dual monitors is slowing me down...
