I'm at the point i want them out of my game, they are the single biggest cause of slowdown and lockups in combat on my pc. and im getting closer and closer to sticking TC in the finished with drawer, and going back to x3:R+XTM

They are the single biggest cause of my death in my game, Every ship that can mount one has them (including some of mine) which makes taking on any group of fighters potentially a death defying feat.Legionnaire wrote:I'm at the point i want them out of my game, they are the single biggest cause of slowdown and lockups in combat on my pc. and im getting closer and closer to sticking TC in the finished with drawer, and going back to x3:R+XTM

1% Hull, I'm glad you made it Squiddy as I've been enjoying this story of yours and would hate to see it so soon

How do I usually navigate khaak sectors like that in my HCP? easy!
I set all my turrets to PBGs, have the rear turret on missile defence. Others on attack enemies.
I dont ever bother with anything smaller than an m3, and if my shield is actually dropping I turn and fly through the m4/m5 swarm gently rolling. You get to hear a lot of booms ^^

Man, 1% hull remaining. Squiddy was almost calamari.
Those PBG's are pretty ridiculous- it wouldn't be so bad if they used up a lot more energy, but they're incredibly efficient.
Which means you can chew up ships that you shouldn't be able to chew up in an M3. I'd vote for reducing them to only having maximum effectiveness against M3+ and smaller- anything bigger would just run out your energy too fast.

OMG this is creepy. I read this thread yesterday and then last night had a dream like the game tutorial or something, where this guy said: If you leave you spaceship by hitting eject then you may lose your pet and pick up another from the many in deep space, such as Squiddy McSquid.
I only just remebered the dream looking at this again!
Oh, and HAPPY 2009
Oh, and NO, i'm not crazy.
Yeh, I have the same problem with those plasma guns. They only fire after I've taken out the last fighter, so they always hit me...

Another crappy day at the office..
Subsequent to my disaster the other day, and having swapped out my HCP for a slightly less charred one, I went back to boarding TM's/training my mercs for their inevitable conformtation aboard the infamous Brigantine. That's assuming of course that I can find another one. Capital pirate ships of any type have been as rare as a Split in a good mood just lately. I've not seen a single one in the Split Fire->Hatikvahs or Loomanckstrats 'Pirate Alley' areas for a good long time. I strongly suspect they're tired of being chased by race military ships and are presently all hiding down near Gaian Star.
The first two captures went smoothly and I even got a handful of 5Mj shields and a couple weapons as a nice bonus. By this point of the original twenty or so mercs that I'ld been industriously training up I was down to my last five, but they were almost all 3-star fighters by now. 4-star gets them promoted to my ninja crew which then gets assigned for full training in all areas. One or possibly two more boarding ops should probably qualify a couple of these guys.
The third capture went fine right up to the point where I'ld disabled his weapon systems and beamed over to my M7M ready to launch a pod, at which point it all went horrifically wrong. As I hit the launch button and my brave squaddies launched into space so flames suddenly washed over my ship and my poor band of merry mercenaries in their unshielded boarding pod were instantly reduced to crispy charcoal briquettes...
Blastclaws, a 4-man wing of them. 95% of the pirates are friendly to me and this bunch of clowns just so happen to come along at RIGHT this second and screw up everything. I was not happy. It's not like they even stood a chance either, I'm sure they just did it to spite me. I've got 3Gj of shielding and 500 Flails on board, what were they thinking..?
One of them elected to bail out, unfortunate for me that his ship didn't suvive the hail of Flail missiles after it, even more unfortunate for him that he did survive it. I'm going to have to find some particularly unpleasant job for this guy to do.. preferably one with a low survivability. Squash mine maintenance engineer perhaps? Standard issue equipment, 1x mallet...
In other news that annoying Boron is making further unreasonable demands (Seriously, it's like having a wife). My Ore-plex finally managed to cough up the last nugget required for fixing the Hub gates so now I have a gate set I can move about at will. Some experimentation required there, I'm sure I can come up with some kindof diabolically devious use for a toy like this. The next thing he wanted was 500 units of Nividium which after the last request seemed positively benign and since I'ld already located a couple Nividium asteroids no t a problem to fill. Obviously he also felt I'ld accomplished that task far too easily as now the miserable sod wants 750,000 crystals. I thought he was kidding at first, but no, the smug git really does actually want that many.
I don't think there's that many in the entire universe...

This continues to be the most entertaining post ever, thanks Squiddy, keep it up!
However it is bound to stray further into 'Spoiler Land'. Doesnt bother me at all but might bother some who discover plot 'secrets' ahead of time without realising they are going to before it's too late, so what about turning it into a Sticky and labelling it appropriately?
On the other hand, it's such an excellent guide to playing so many aspects of the game...

Just for information, I've copied the first 21 pages of text in this thread, to put it together as a proper story for the X3 Handbook. (Just the story, none of the comments or answers to comments.)
I'm afraid I havent been keeping up to date, so if there is a point not far after that where its a logical ending point. Let me know. Otherwise I'll leave it there and point people to the thread to read on. For the Handbook, its got to end somewhere

Well i was thinking about your pondering there Nuke as to whether you could cut off access to a couple of pirate sectors to use for your own use. Although this is not entirly possible you could severly limit the ammount of traffic in those sectors and spew most of it through your hub.
Seeing as how the Hub is YOUR sector now... you can do whatever you want in it. If you set one set of gates to intersect Brennan's Triumph/Danna's Chance gate... and a second set to the Nopileos' Memorial/Hatikvah's Faith gate... This would effectivly cut off all traffic sans a xenon patrol from 101 (which is reeeeally rare) to two sectors and reroute it through your hub.
Two sectors that are halfway safe... and the hub which is now your prime hunting ground
