Early Gala Bi mission, need some help!!! Anyone?

I've recently started the Bala Gi missions (for X3) , just am stuck on the one where you have to

find someone in the Unknown sectors to the west of Maelstrom, but no sign or message; excepts some invisible enemy who attacked my wingmen, where those part of the mission or just a glitch?

Need some help from someone who has done the early Gala Bi missions.

the "unknown enemy" is probably squash mines
- there are a few around the gate..

If you have your targetting set to "Nearest enemy" it will pick up mines as you approach them...

That won't help much--it's a big sector and the thing you're looking for is a long way from its centre; chances are it won't show up on your satellite's scan range.

I'll just have to fly around in circles some more
(and make heaps of cash meanwhile)
