Docking Model for J
What program would I need to edit the model for a J to include docking bays, so it can actually be used as a CARRIER?
Don't want a mod as I want to learn to do it myself.

Ok, DeadlyDa had no issues with me putting up the XSP, so here it is:
Fixed Xenon J XSP
I'll take a look at the Khaak Carrier this weekend and see if it works in DDRS.

Question:
If you add it in via .xsp, that would of course put an additional entry into TShips, and NOT overwite the original, wouldn't it?
So, wouldn't you need to extract the TShips file, cut and paste the NEW J's ref. line and slot it in in place of the old J's ref. in the file?
Am I right? Or does the updated scene file contained in the .xsp mean that the Egosoft J would also have its body and docking bay capabilities altered too?
Reason I ask is not so much for this ship, but I've DL'd some fixed TLs(like the Mammoth) in .xsp form, that have an EXTERNAL slot for TS/TP ships. But I've not yet popped them in, because I have had misgivings about whether or not I need to slot them in place to "cover over" the original ref. points in the TShips file.
Does that make sense?

The XSP I made replaces the existing J "slot", if that makes sense. XSPs become a separate CAT file at the end of the chain, IIRC.
If I understand how everything works correctly, the game engine first loads the default resource files from the bottom-numbered CATs, and then any changes contained in the later CATs would overwrite those values.
The Ship creator has a check box to determine if the ship will replace an existing entry or be added to tShips as a separate entry. You can always edit the XSP in the ship creator for the ships you downloaded and change those parameters to your liking.

Keep in mind that only new Js spawned into the Universe after installing the XSP will work correctly, existing J's still will be broken.
I don't think the Khaak Carrier has been fixed in DDRS at least. If anyone knows of a mod with a working version, let me know and I'll go download it and whip up an XSP for it.

This is fantastic! Thank You DeadlyDa for giving those permissions..I capped a J a few weeks ago using Bail Signal Ext. , but could only sell the thing because I couldn't use it. I just tested this and it is working GREAT!..Now, I'm going J hunting again!...

Hmm, the problem seems to be getting it to work with my existing save. Any tips on how to make that possible? (I get a notice of a corrupted save game. Uninstalling the ship fixes that).
