It is possible. There is a base to land at on the far side of the planet in Kingdoms End.
Enjoy the trip.

MoM is back again...
Unfortunately (or fortunately, it depends) you can't land on planets, the only time you go planet side is part of the plot...

I flew to Paranid Prime once. Yes, the planet you can see there.
It was quite funny actually, the nebula strip that runs around th horizon, that the planet is half obscured by, stayed the same size, and stayed in front of the planet, even though the planet was really big. :D I took a screenie, I should upload it.

It took a bit over an hour to get to the planet on SETA. I went off and had a shower why I was waiting. :D

I have a question, if you could land on the planet what would you do?
I'm at a blank at the moment. :?

Though to make X3 planet based and jump gates to other planets would be ok. Just change the background and hope on-one notices :D

You think wrong, it's a planet. Look at the surface texture quality if you don't believe me - hell, do it yourself if you don't believe me! All you need is a peggy, SETA x10 and a brief bit of EVA.

You point down and fly forwards until your space-suit bumps into a polygon. Contact!

pure "landing" won't add anything to the game

to make things interesting you need:
terrains, cities, bases, products, destinations, missions, interactions and what not

So the choice for using Egosoft's limited programming resources is thus:

Add planet landings and bring them up to the current level of interaction as we currently have with the space part of the game, OR

Use those same limited resources to improve on the current space part of the game.

Personally, I much, much prefer the latter. :)
