Windowed mode

Post by Troj »

Hi again :)

It's nice to see that X3 works well in a windowed mode, well from a performance point of view, but is there a way to make it not capture the mouse when it moves out of the client window bounds ?
Like EVE does, if you've experienced it ...

If I'm working from home, I'd like to have X3 in a window that I can minimise and interact with when I need to, without having to alt-tab.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks anyway, CBJ.

Personally I find it quicker to alt-tab than use the taskbar anyway. I'm just thankful that the game has a windowed mode, far too many games don't include one these days and it's irritating for those of us who play games inbetween dealing with other stuff.

Thank you Egosoft for actually implementing a windowed mode. Just one more reason why I love you all (in a totally manly and non-gay fashion)

It would be nice to be able to move the window around though. Some of my window is off the top of the screen.

You can move the window... Thats if you can access the very top of the window...

It should drag just like any other window on your dekstop.

However if your useing the same pixels for desktop and X3, you may not see the very top of the window...

That doesn't work. As soon as the game window gets the focus (when you press the mouse button to drag for example) the mouse input is redirected to DirectX so you lose the normal Windows mouse pointer and all of its functionality.

You can still Alt-Tab to a different window, to make the X3 window move.

Just caint have X3 being the active window to do it, as you have mentioned.

If you Alt-Tab then a different window gets the focus and you can no longer move the game window. In all seriousness, if you've found a way to move it then I'd be very interested to know about it, but so far I've tried every way I can think of and not succeeded.

I had to use a thirdparty app called AltMove (freeware). This was after a lot of research into standard OS hotkeys (none of which helped).

You are correct. 9.0c this does not work. Further research provided that DX 10 in the past had a bug that allowed it.

So, all in all im in fault for assumeing DX 9.0c would work the same. Oh the joys of testing Beta Software!

Sorry to drag this thread back to life :)

So, can I assume that this issue is a non-starter with regards to a quick fix? The ability to allow the mouse cursor outside the game area (full screen or windowed) just isnt going to happen? I am aware of the problem with other windows gaining focus and the main game minimizing (if the game is full screen), there are reason for wanting to move the cursor outside the game area (not just to move the window).

(The game iL2 PF/AEP/1946 does the same thing, in both windowed and full screen mode, but it has an option in one of its *.ini files to allow the cursor to leave the game area).

You can safely assume that this is not going to change.
