Newbies help to constructing first complex

Post by Kvuqy »

Greetings

I have played X3TC for 2 months now and I'm loving the game. Been learning the game as I went on and I've now come to the point where I would like to start building larger complexes.

My questions are:

After having placed two factories nearly on top of eachother, how do I connect the two? I have tried for hours to use the "Complex Construction kit" and without sucess.

I read somewhere when googling it that they needed to be connected with "hubs". What are these, and where do I get them?

Prehand, thanks for the help.

Order the TL to drop the construction kit like you would do with other factories. If the fabs are within range (20km) then the process will ask which two fabs/hubs you wish to connect to. If its two fabs then it will ask where you wish to place the hub for the connection.

You will need a CK for every new connection you make.

Either positioning your ship or having an advanced satalite in the sector and press K on the sector map will allow you to better see the orientation for the docking clamps (more an issue when In Sector after construction).

If you are connecting two hubs then the first one you pick to connect using a CK will be retained after connection.

As a result you therefore only need another CK for every fab you wish to connect after the first one or number of CKs is (No. of fabs - 1)

Just be careful how close you put the factories to each other. If they really are right on top of each other then they will rub together and one will go boom... A km or two apart is the minimum I'd risk!

Actually, the collision models on factories seem to be pretty good and you can have them almost touching. Of course, the tricky bit is positioning your ship beforehand so you get a good view and can tell when they're nearly not not quite touching.

What happens if that you'll be able to drop the construction kit and select the first factory regardless. It's only then that the range requirement comes in and only your factories and complex hubs within range will show up as candidates for the second choice.

There is also a range restriction on how far the hub can be from the factories when you come to place it and it will go red if it's out of range.
